Number 1900 by rifle plus 1200 with traps.

WOW! I'm probably north of 100, but not by much. That represents an incredible amount of effort that could only be fueled by passion. -- and probably back in the day, with considerable economic motivation.

My old fur buyer used to run his own coyote and muskrat lines, and if I recall, his annual total was around 150-250 per year on coyotes. -- and he bought God only knows how many from other trappers. The man was a human dynamo, and most of us are a bunch of limp wristed wimps by comparison. After fur season, he was a commercial fisherman on the Oregon coast, owning his own boat. And that aint exactly a vacation.

Most folks these days don't have a clue as to the work it takes to make your living off the land. Mother Nature doesn't favor the weak or the lazy. jd

Tell us about the rifle, cartridge and bullet used please.
From Wyman this morning. He has been down with sickness but is better.

Yessir! My favorite load that has served me well for 25 years is 29.5 grains of Varget behind a 55 grain Sierra FBSP. Have to use Remington 7 1/2 Small Rifle Bench Rest Primers as they are the best because it’s a pretty hot load, the only primers that consistently does not suffer from firing pin penetration.
I’m feeling pretty normal tonight! Man it’s so great!
You and Charlotte have a great evening!
Wyman

About his coyote numbers, most of you know that he lived in a primitive dugout for three years trapping and shooting coyotes and bobcats for the fur to pay off his college debts. His bobcat numbers were 900. Every animal has been documented.

Compare his intestinal fortitude to the wimps today thinking we should pay their college debt while they lay on the couch. The way America use to be. I had a 222 magnum, greatly under rated cartridge.

piercing primers.... First thing I'd do is bush the firing pin hole. Being that the old rifle is no longer made and probably has two tons of sentimental value Wyman may not want to change it in any way. And CCI 450's are also a tough primer.

I have a few Stillers with a .223 bolt face with a smaller pin diameter and pin, no pierced primers.

Great picture, big old dog.

Would love to hear some stories about this man and his life. Not many people in the world like this anymore. True outdoorsman are few and far between.

Thanks again for posting, Butch. Wyman is an animal. And...that is some pretty country down there. I love the cedar covered rolling hills. I've spent a lot of time down there in the last 30 years. Wyman pics always bring back great memories.

Working on a 6.5PRC and hope to get out to Benjamin in the next 30-45 days.
