NRA Regional Mid-Range Results - Camp Pendleton Aug. 21-22

Santa Margarita Gun Club held a Regional Mid-Range this past weekend at Camp Pendleton's Wilcox Range 103. The aggregate results are attached. Congratulations to Gary Eliseo and German Salazar, winners in Match Rifle and F-Class, respectively. Weather was great and was a nice change for our Arizona friends.

Steve, it was great to see you and to enjoy some cool weather for a change! The match was perfectly run and we're all eager to go back out there soon - thanks to the Santa Margarita Gun Club and MCB Camp Pendleton and the Marines for a great weekend!

A good number of AZ boys out there. Winning F-class with a T/R gun!! Way to go German. Mister Cobb did amazingly well as well.

Mike,

Jim Cobb shot very well and there was talk of a clean tournament for him up until the third stage at 600, Sunday. We had cloud cover and ideal conditions all day Saturday and through stages one and two, Sunday. The sun came out before stage three and, as soon as the land started heating, a strong ocean breeze developed. It was highly variable with several direction changes and numerous let-offs. I don't say this to excuse my terrible score at 600 but to emphasize how well German and Gary shot the last stage under challenging conditions. Both good guys and shooters.

Steve and Mike,
It was a great match with great weather. I got bit by the wind at 600. One by firing a called "10" at 8 oclock that showed up as a "8" at 8 oclock. Oh well. The wind at 600 was challenging as it seemed to be rapidly changing from 2.5 to 5 min. I could see the mirage well and after my 8 on the second shot, played the Bob Jensen, take a well centered, safe shot. This stategy worked well on saturday during the second match at 600 as well. I would say that the 6BR is a damn good choice for mid range matches and firing 4000 competitive rounds in smallbore since March, 2.5K in March alone, has helped with my performance this summer.

German shot his Palma rifle to a great score and gets a bonus prize for how well he shot. Gary shot damn good as well.

I look forward to trying to attend this match again next year. The relief from 115F heat was great and the boss was happy with the time on the beach. Thanks to the Santa Margarita Gun Club for putting on a great run match and to the Marines we had pulling targets.
Jim

It was great catching up with the Zonies again, nice job German and with a TR gun no less! That last string was tough! The So Cal crew will be out there as soon as it cools off and I expect you guys to paddle us real hard ;) Thanks to Carlos and Memo for a well run match and for the Marines who did a fine job in the pits.
Gary Eliseo
