NRA Master at LR

I am just curious if there is anyway to confirm how many shooters have reached Master classification at LR matches? In our club there are many that have reached Master at MR but not so many at LR.

I'm sure the NRA competitions could look it up. They wont bother looking it up for you though.

There's a lot more MR ranges than LR ranges around the country so I'm sure that accounts for a lot of it

Here is the post by Mr Glasscock made on Feb 19.2016. Great info !! I had wondered that myself.

I inquired with NRA regarding the classification breakdowns. I want to recognize Shelly, the Tournament Operations Dept. Manager. This was an odd request that was handled wonderfully!

Thanks Shelly!

Now, this is for information (bragging rights?) only. It is not intended as a prompt for changing the classification system.

At Long Range (800-1000 yards), there are 1644 classified shooters. Currently, there are 108 recorded High Masters and 223 Masters.

At Mid Range (300, 500, and 600 yards), there are 2520 classified shooters. 619 HM and 459 Masters.

If we assume that all long-range shooters also hold MR classifications, there are 511 MR High Masters that do not hold HM at long range. If we wander down that path a little farther and assume that all LR High Masters and Masters will hold HM at MR, there are still are 288 MR HM's that either don't have a LR classification -OR- hold Expert or below at LR (I was one of those until last year).

I hope you find this information useful.

I would also be one of those HM at MR with an EX classification at LR

A lot of High Masters made High Master while the biggest part of the game was Palma for Long Range, 800, 900, and 1,000 yds all on the same target.

Now that F-Class has come along, Long Range has evolved to mostly the 1,000 yard line. It's not as easy to make High Master while most of all the shooting is done from 1K yard line.

Just an observation.

Actually, I'm betting a lot of LR HM (sling) made it back when 600yd Prone matches were still classified as 'long range'. I know a couple 'LR HM's that never shot beyond 600yds... ever.

Anyone who earned a LR card only shooting at 600 and never shot actual LR would be weeded out by now, as the classification expires after 3 years if the shooter hasn't participated in a NRA-sanctioned tournament. Since 600 is no longer recognized as LR, shooting 600-yard matches wouldn't work to maintain the classification.

If you look at the BSWN scores this year there are 2 or 3 times as many HM scores shot at Palma vs 1K. Not that many HM shot HM scores at 1K :)

Were you there?

If you were, you'd know that there were *considerably* different conditions between the two days.

Different enough that a straight-up comparison of the scores between them would be highly prone to error.

Yup, I was there. It was a bit tongue in cheek but the difference is still significant. The individual Palma match scores show the same thing. Hitting a 10” 10 ring is harder at 1k than 800 or 900 yards.

I really don’t think anyone would argue that it isn’t. And yet you still don’t see a lot of 450’s being shot.

I am a long range Master, and also a Master XTC, US Fullbore, and have been for about 7 years. However, just last week got a Mid range classification card... yep Master. Where I shoot LR in Sacramento and Coalinga California we have a way bigger number of High Masters (like 15-20 on any given monthly match) than 6-10 Masters.
What is weird to me is that there are 1644 LR classified shooters. Is that just sling shooters or does it include F class? I only shoot sling, but, am kind of surprised that there are only 1600 of us in the whole country.
