NRA Free Rifle,High-Power) Project

Greetings every one from South of the Equator.

I have been thinking about taking up a new rifle discipline in NRA. I had a look at the New Zealand NRA rules about free rifle competition and am thinking about having a rifle built in 6mm XC to compete. I especially like the look of the Tubb rifle.

There is not a great deal of benchrest shooting here in NZ, so NRA looks my best bet. I have read lots of good things about the 6mm XC, but obviously I am going to need some help on this subject. It would be a nice change from shooting .223 or .308, with less recoil than .308, but ballistically similiar to the 142 gr 6.5's

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Best wishes,

Michael.

If by "NRA" you mean what we call "High-power" in the USA or "full-bore" in Australia, then yes, that's what the 6XC is optimized for. You'll find lots of info at www.DavidTubb.com . If you can get your hands on the Ruag 6x47 Brass, that would be my first choice in a cartridge. I think you first need to decide whether you want a mag-fed repeater or a single shot. If the later, H&H,Tony Halberg) right in New Zealand sells a really nice unit that should be very competitive.

Mastin makes good stocks, and here's the Aussie "Jerico",sp?) stock that has been used with success in Palma.

There are lots of guys on www.long-range.com who can offer good advice also.

Another good choice is a rifle built around the Barnard action, contact

The same action used to set a new F-class record, and made here in NZ
