NRA Classifications Question

I shot my first FTR competition, mid range, last weekend, I learned allot, and can't wait for next season, Now as an unclassified shooter Im curious how many competitions or relays, round count does one need too shoot before you start getting classifications.

Actually I received my LR card one month after shooting enough rounds to re classify last month.
They must be improving.

nfngun: If you shot your first NRA registered match, and your average put you in the Expert class (for example), then for any following match's you can compete in the Expert class, with a temporary classification. No longer any need to compete in "Unclassified Master". Does not matter that you may have only fired 60 rounds, of the required 120 for permanent classification, in your first match. That average is recognized.

Just so you know, the lag between the match and finally getting your card is not all the NRA's fault. The match officials need to send in the scores and sometimes, they can take a little while (weeks or longer.) Since being tasked with the match director duties for the LR matches at our club, I have worked on my spreadsheets to the point that I can have the scores published and the report ready for the NRA the evening after the match. I send the scores to be distributed by email, wait a few days to see if anyone squawks and then I send the scores to the NRA with the check and the paperwork on the Thursday following the Sunday match.

Our club members have been receiving their updated cards fairly quickly after the various matches.

Yes, that a good link. From a discussion I had with the NRA staff a few years back, I believe they run the classification update thing once a week and if you see your classification changing at that link, the card should be in the mail at that point. But this was a few years ago.

Well it was ran recently, I have a new classification as of 10/29

Jeremy did you already get classification from the match at the end of September? I just checked the scores and you shot 96.6% in FTR. That puts you at master, congratulations!

I also just checked last week's scores and you shot 97.375%. You are doing a great job of shooting this year. Keep up the good the good work.

Thanks Mike, I thought I calcd it as Expert, but the website shows Master. The card is probably on the way, or sitting at home in the mailbox.

They have it right.. 1546 ÷ 16 = 96.625 you need 96% for master I can't tell you with any certainty how they use the info with 160 shots sent in at one time. BTW you shot 97.5% in the 2nd half of the match. You are not far away from achieving a HM.

Has anyone received their classifications from the F-Class Nationals this year? I have not seen any update yet?

Classifications and re-classifications are tabulated on a date fired sequence.

Scores from a match are combined. For example, if you already have 60 shots on record from a previous match and a total of 120 shots are required for re-classification, you may then happen to fire 100 shots in your next match. The total number of shots fired in this next match (100) are added to the prior match (60) for a total of 160, not just the first 60. If you fire a two-day match with say 100 shots each day, then that match total will include the 200 for the weekend added to whatever was already on record with NRA Central.

If your average is computed to be 96.95% and 97% is required for classification, the average is not rounded up. I know many friends (myself included) that missed a classification by a single point once the totals were added.

Coincidentally . . .

I shot the 28-29 Sep match with Pete, Mike, Jeremy, et al, and just today received my very first classification card and stuff. Missed Expert by less than 0.5% so I have lots of room to learn and improve.

Nando, we are going to get to work on you right away. You won the senior but if your going to perry this year then we have some fine tuning to do!!! I have some homework for you if are up to some ambitious training. I don't see a age limit in the NRA rules on winning.

A couple more wind free relays.. ;)

I need to work on shooting with wind. New scope and spotting scope are on the way. Hope to make one more match this year, next weekend in Nebraska.

Good to know ...

I shot a 143, 143' and a 141 which I believe puts me in expert range. I was using what I knew shot well at 200 using a reduced target I was consistently in the 10 or x ring, but the 52 SMKs didn't translate well out too 300 which I suspected they wouldn't I just didn't expect them to open up so much. Like I said I learned allot, I would have been better off shooting 69s even though they didn't shoot as tight at 200 I'm sure they would have held up allot better at 300.
