Anyone shooting these ? Ive been shooting them out of my bartlein 13 tw .222 with decent results. Im wondering what kind of results other folks are getting on paper and on vermints....? Doesn't seem to be a very popular bullet and Im guessing its because its a longer 53 gn bullet vs others and there might be some stability issues with them.?

NF:
what twist do you have on your 22-250?? Load info if you're willing to share. I have some 53g Vmax's I plan on trying in my 22-250.

They shoot great, better than the Vmax in my 223 Savage 1 in 9 twist. Turns then vermits inside out.

I have used both the 53 and 55, as well as the 6mm 70s. They’re my favorite, much better than v max in my opinion.

IMG-20120526-00048.jpg I've probably shot well over 300 coons with the 55gr tipped varmageddons out of ARs; they are a very thin jacketed bullet in my experience. They're easily the most "explosive" .224 bullet I've tried, and I've run a few of them. Back when I had a 12t .223 they did well on paper too.

If I hadn't personally done it, I'd question the legitimacy of this story, but we once shot one that treed 15' above my buddies brand new white super duty. The coon falls out of the tree and lands on the hood and slides off the side of the truck. We had to go wash the truck immediately afterwards; the thing was covered in blood and bone bits.... I've never had a bullet do anything like that out of a .223 before; performed more like you'd expect out of a 22-250/220 swift. It was gross, but absolutely hilarious at the time; my buddy who was holding the spotlight standing on the passenger side running board got some in his mouth, and was hollering and trying to spit it out immediately after the shot. Nearly had me in tears laughing so hard.

I don't have any personal experience with the 53gr version, but I'd have to imagine the jacket/construction is roughly the same. If they're a flat base like the 55gr, they can be a pain to seat if you're not using a comp-style seater. Very accurate on paper for me, but I've only ever shot them at short range.

Edit: Found a pic for proof, and sharing for my own laughs. :) IMG-20120526-00048.jpg

Good stuff, I haven't had much chance to use them on whistlepigs yet but Im anxiously awaiting the opportunity

Anyone try these out of a 14 twist?

Yes sir, they run just fine out of mine. I have a 14 and a 12 and I have to say that the Varmageddon bullets are some of the most accurate bullets out there. I don't know why, but they are and they are not an expensive bullet either. In fact, I think they have to be one of the cheapest you can get.
I think this must be something the rest of the world has caught onto too, most of the time they are hard to find and when I do I grab up on them.
Varmageddon's work so good for me that I found and bought some 6mm ones to try in my 243.

I haven't tried the 53's but have shot alot of the 55's . Just bought a Broughton 5c barrel in 222 with 13 twist from a member on this sight and tried all the 52-53 match bullets with .5 -1 inch results . Started working with the 55 varmageddon and Benchmark and shooting fairly consistent .3's . Also use them in 223 , 22-250 , 22br .

I have switched from the 55’s to the 53’s outbof my savage with a 26” 12T shilen. Benchmark is the powder of choice for both bullets- 25.0 to 25.5 grains, accuracy has been 3/8” or less if I do my part. I liked the 53 because it has a better B.C than the 55, and it shoots better that the 53 vmax in my Rifle- it’s also cheaper. Being a flat base bullet I’m not sure how how it would compare to a boa tail of the same weight over a long distance- my shots are generally no more than 300 for coyotes.

Give the Sierra 53 gr.HP, p/n 1400 a try. Flat base, hollow point and for me very accurate out of an 8 or 9 twist 223. I shoot it over IMR3031 but have only used it on paper targets.
