Nosler or Hornady 105gn for 6 Dasher

I have a new Dasher barrel which just wont shoot the Bergers, and shoots much better with the locally made 103gn Copperheads. The barrel is supposed to be an 8" twist, but there could be tolerances stacking up??
I would like to try some more 105gn range bullets and am thinking of the Nosler CC or Hornady HPBT match. Has anyone done much with these in benchrest spec guns? How do they measure up for length and diameter, I heard the Noslers are slightly under sized?

Give the 107 Sierras a try. I have a Dasher that shoots them pretty good. What Berger's did you try? The 105 Hybrids shoot...

What load are you shooting in the dasher,...primer, powder, exact bullet?
I just got off the phone with a friend of mine that just checked bs and length of the c.c and he said they were very good, I have read on here they shoot great out to 600 yards, not sure how there gonna do at a 1000 but I will know soon as he is going to wring them out in a couple weeks I think.

The load which works fairly well is 33gns Varget (AR2208), CCI 450 primers with 103gn Copperheads (similar to 103 Spencers) approx .030" jump. I have tried up and down on loads and jam jump. This works fairly well, but has occaisional fliers. My other Dashers and 6BR love these 103s.

In this barrel, the 105 Hybrids shot a 2 foot group at 300M, not exagerating, which makes me think they could be unstable. (they do shoot well in one of my other Dasher barrels, while only about .5 moa in yet another). I,m looking for a bullet which is a little shorter than the 107 Sierras, which is why I was wondering about the Hornadys.
This barrel will be for 1000yd LG

I would check the twist rate first, than what neck tension are you running, and how much neck clearance? your powder charge is about right and good choice of primer, if it is a 1:8 twist and all your clearances are correct it should easily shoot the hybrids, contrary to what you read on the forums the hybrid is picky about seating depth, but only for final tune, 3' sounds like a twist problem, however the Spencers also has a long bearing surface and you say it will shoot them or ones similar?...lets get this figured out for you.

The neck tension is .002" and neck clearance about .0025", same as my other 6BR and 3x 6 Dashers. Same neck turner setting and reamers for all Dashers. These others guns will shoot the Hybrids OK, but just not quite as good as the 103s, except for 1 of the Dashers. I agree 100% that the hybrids are not as seating depth insensitive as people make out. Shooting a 2 foot group at 300 is not a problem with tune. (The group was scattered in a roundish sort of shape, it wasn't all vertical.
I will try to measure the twist rate with a cleaning rod and tight patch, but I really suspect it is slower than advertised.

Check out the Picture... The line up of the bullets you asked about.

Enjoy

Problem found. The barrel is 10" twist.
I have just been trying the tight patch and cleaning rod method of measuring twist rates. I checked a few 6mm barrels and all others I checked came in at the correct 8", 8.5" or 14" twist except this barrel. I'm surprised the 103s even worked, but then it has been very warm lately which likely helped.
Looks like this barrel will be getting rechambered in 6BR for the 87, 88 or 95gn pills.

I kind of expected that was going to be what you found, the Hybrids are long and high b.c the 103's are much shorter, I suspect if you had tried to reach out long the 103's would not have held a good pattern either, sorry you got took on the barrel but glad you figured it out.

I have not shot a lot of the Hornady 105 BTHP, plan on shooting some next month in the xcourse match for 600 in my 240 Tomahawk. Gary Eliseo said they shot great in his 6BR tubgun with a 200 and high X count. I did test a few at the end of my 600 yd. string last weekend and of the 4 I tested, they were all Xs and the verticle was at or within 1 click of the 107 Sierra. They had to be seated deeper in the case for me to be off as far of the lands as the Sierra, they seem to lilke about .025 or .030 jump, so I would think they would be fine in a Dasher or BRX, etc. Not the last word, so take it for what it's worth. i shoot the 87 Hornady BTHP for my short line loads, and they have always just hammered, numerous cleans in 300 rapids with them, and would have more in sitting but for the nut behind the buttstock! Bozo699. I,m not too bummed really. I have been wanting a 10" twist 6BR for a while now, specificly for 300yd F Class and for a local range which has 36 shot string 300M shooting. Just have to find a gunsmith with the correct reamer for short bullets now. As it is my existing 6BR and 6 Dasher F Open guns are going great, so I just need a lighter scope to use them in Lightgun Class.

Dfry. The freebore my Dashers have means I cant use the light bullets, BUT an older Dasher barrel of mine is getting a little long in the throat for the 103s. I think the long bearing surface 105 Hornadys will be good to get more life out of it for club shoots.

i loved the 105 amax's but sometimes i would get a box that would shoot no better than 3/4 " groups so i changed to sierra 107 and seems more consistant .
