Nosler custom brass vs Lapua

Hi All
Looking at building a 243AI - does anyone have any comments regarding Nosler custom brass compared to Lapua?

regards Murray

I agree, bought the Nosler Custom brass for the 22-250 & 30-06, flasholes were egg shaped / oval shaped. Some of the case mouths were not concentric. I have shot their partition & ballistic tips and always been happy with their product. But the brass needs more quality control. Buy the Lapua! You won't be disappointed

After being stung in the Lapua .223 rem debacle, I began looking at other premium brass makers' products. I have to say that my experience with the Nosler brass I have bought so far--- 200 .223 rem and 100 .30-06-- has been nothing but good. The cases I have seen so far were all well made- weights were very close in all cases -no oval flash holes for sure- all, and I do mean ALL, dimensions within +/- .001" and more importantly 190 of the .223 and 97 of the .30-06 were all +/- .1 gram in actual case capacity. I did not buy Nosler as soon as it came out. It may be that they had some troubles getting Winchester to produce according to the Nosler specs, I don't know, but by the time I bought mine it was excellent brass. I just wish they'd market a .220 russian/6ppc.

I recently bought 300 pieces of Nosler custom brass in 300 ultra mag + was extremely dissappointed. Weight variation in all 50 piece boxes was 1.7 grains. All cases were trimmed .007 to .024 below minimum trim length [+ everything in between]. All necks had a .002-.003 variation in neck thickness. Brass was extremely soft. Blew primers 50% of shots fired with starting loads from 3 different loading manuels chronographed @ 3000fps [might as well shoot an 30/06]. Cases can't handle even 53,000 psi. All was returned as defective to Nosler + they were real nice about it + replaced all the brass. Got new brass + found to be exactly the same as defective brass already returned. Not even good enough for 1 reload @ 3000 fps. Switched back to Remington brass with full bench rest prep.[only other brass available for 300 ultra]. Currently shooting Remington brass @ 3425 with 180 grain bullet. No blown primers, No signs of pressure, aprox. 14 reloads per case. My experience with Nosler brass is don't waste your money or time. Search this site for Nosler Custom Brass + you will find many other disappointed people.

If Nosler brass and Lapua cost the same, I would buy Lapua.

That being said, I have 100 300WM Nosler cases that only cost me $44. That is less than 1/2 Lapua's prices. I have had no failures or any bad experiences with the brass. I use Nosler brass in my .243 too with the same great experiences.

I would be using Nosler cases in my 300 SAUM, but Norma beat them to the punch. That is also some phenomenal brass. I was able to go a full grain over my max load with RP brass and still see no pressure signs with greater velocity. If only the accuracy had gotten better, it would have been a trifecta. As such, there are bad cases that get out of every factory.

I guess it depends on what caliber you are using. If it is .243, its a wash and I would go with Lapua. If you are talking about 300 WM, use the Nosler.

I suspect that Nosler buys its brass from various vendors. I've seen some good and some terrible. Caveat Emptor!

I’ve bought 3 lots of the newer Lapua 223 Match brass over the last couple years and the last 2, one from Midway & one from Sinclair, still have primer pockets so un-uniformly tight that my EJS Uniformer hangs up in most of them. I’ve ordered 3 boxes of Nosler 223 and am going to try them this gun around.
