Nosler 6mm Ballistic Tips

I picked up a box of 55 and 70 gr NBTs to try in my 6BR bench rifle just for fun,,I have my brass and bushing dies set up for Barts 68BTs and with the sized brass I can push the 55 and 70 NBTs in and out of the case by hand,,I am using a .264 bushing with the Barts and would probably need a .260 or .261 to hold the Noslers,,I dont think I want to go messing with my good brass just to try the Noslers,,

I dont really have a question just an observation I suppose,,,

for this rifle yeah it is,,I was just wanting to see how the 55NBTs would shoot in my Bench rifle and test their accuracy against some hand swagged match bullets,,

the Nosler 55s measure .2426 and Barts 68s measure .2435 so I might try a .262 bushing and see if that will hold them and see how they group from a 13.5 twist 6BR,,

I have thought about trying a tight neck chamber but always decide not to. I have some redding bushing that are .265-267 if you need them.

thanx man but I have the bushings, I am just not sure I want to squeeze this brass down that much,,I think I have some Norma 6BR brass I could try them in,,

I will assume that the Noslers having a solid base is why they run a little smaller than normal cup and core bullets,,I know I had a Rem 700 VLS 6mm Rem that would shoot the 70 NBT at 3700 fps in some very tight groups,,I wish I had kept that rifle and put a new bbl on it instead of selling it when it shot its wad,,

When I was running a factory 243 I got great accuracy with the 80s and 55s. They are explosive enough as well. But not as explosive as the v-maxs.

Out of all the light 6mm varmint bullets the Nosler 55 is the fastest by a pretty good margin. With a stout load of the right powder a std 6BR can get them to 4000 FPS.

I know your not asking for loads but I figured I'd throw this out there, many people like a slightly faster burning powder with the light bullets but I always had great luck with my dashers and varget with the light bullets (70-80gr). I tried many other powders but varget was the top choice in three different barrels for me with varmint bullets with good velocity. My pops had a great load with 65gr. V-max and varget in his BR as well. A long drop tube and full case did the trick in many barrels for us with this combo.

I don't think we ever went as low as 55gr's though and that might not be the best recipe for that light of bullet for accuracy and especially velocity but I'd try it for the 70's if possible.
