I headed east from ID thru Billings, MT and up to the Little Missouri National Grasslands. Mid-July. There was through smoke throughout MT and it was hot - and stayed hot.
Very little smoke - once in this part of ND. I thought the heat would keep other shooters away and I was correct in this regard. Here = East of Baker MT and north of Marmarth, ND; up towards Ft. Dilts.
In the past, I have slept in the truck, outside, etc. and now have a camper which is a blessing, but adds logistics. I drove this rig to within 1/2 mile of the PD fields.
It was 75-102 deg. -- and the AC in my truck was out of order the entire trip and the AC in my shiny trailer did not work. I did bring a small fan and that was a blessing.
I also brought my Mtn bike, but it was too darn hot to ride.
I used a 22-250, 223, 6X47 Lapua, 22-243, 22 BR and some others.
The wind was the determining factor as to what rifles I carried out. It was a fun trip and I made a couple of longer shots
