Norma powder? what do you think

Don't mean to be a smartaleck, but which Norma powder are you interested in... MRP is popular for the big magnums. N203B just recently became available again in USA. URP is a relatively new powder similar to H4350.

In my experience N203B was very accurate in a std 6BR.

In some very limited testing I did a couple of weeks back, using > 100 grain bullets in 6HAGAR) I compared RL15 to 203B. My results were virtually identical for velocity, SD and accuracy out to 100 yards.

Testing the 200 at the moment. Just wondered if anyone here has experience with Norma in general and if it is worth the time.
Some brands aren't worth reading the label just didn't know about Norma.

A fellow highpower shooter and friend of mine, tried Norma 203B in his 6BR Norma and stated that it is just too temp sensitive.

All my experience with Norma powder has been with Norma factory ammo. I found it to burn exceptionally clean, but had one 300 Win Mag about 20 yrs ago that scared me. How I found it was that I had had a problem with several rounds of fairly old Norma 10 mm pistol ammo that had apparently deteriorated so that some rounds wouldn't cycle the 1006 Smith and one nearly squibbed, I didn't shoot any more of it, but did start shaking the Norma .300 Win ammo before shooting it,to hear the powder shake). When one didn't make a sound, I put it in my pocket, and stopped shooting that too. When I got home and pulled the bullet, expecting to find the powder caked, There wasn't any powder at all. I probably had shot 150 rds or so over several months with no problem before that happened. I pulled the bullets from all the rest of that ammo and didn't find any more squibs, but one was enough for me.

I know that Norma makes the Weatherby brass, but I don't know if they load the ammo. I haven't had any problem with any factory Wby ammo.

To be fair, I haven't heard anything bad about Norma powder, but I don't use it.

Good shooting, Tom

Thanks for the replies.
This is far from a benchrest round but I thought if anyone has used Norma it would be benchresters. I sent one of my barrels a 12 twist 18" 6.8SPC to a guy in Virginia. He had velocities that averaged around 3200fps from a 90gr TNT out of a 18" barrel using Norma 200. That is as fast as my 243 will shoot a 95SMk from a 22" barrel. 3066fps is the max velocity I had been able to get with the same 6.8 barrel type but with RE7. He said the SD was 9 but hasn't had a chance to shoot for groups with it.
Looks like it's worth testing further.

I've had extremely good results with the Norma in 222 Rem.,N200); 220 Swift and 375 H&H,NMP); 300 Win.Mag.,MRP) and recently in the 6mm BR with 203B. The problem with Norma, also here in Europe) is availability and price which is horrendous as it cost twice as much as other powders

I've been shooting Norma 201 exclusively in my Hunter gun since the early 90's. First barrel was in 308 Win. with 135's, 30x47's since with the same bullet. I've tried other powders but 201 always comes out on top.

I don't know if there's any truth to the story, but I was told that Norma & Alliant powders were made by the same manufacturer, and that Norma got the most uniform lots, while Alliant marketed the rest. Anyone know for certain if this is true? Could this be the reason that N203B & RL15 are so similar?

I see Powder Valley now carries the Norma line of powders, but only in 1lb. cans. Is it available in 5 or 8lb. caddies?
