Norma brass not so good

Here's a pic of one of about 15 pieces of Norma brass for 22-250 that has horrible neck wall thickness consistency I tossed em all in the trash. Measured with
Starret ball mic thin side .008 and other side .017!

I am very surprised as I have had excellent concentricity with the Norma brass I have used in five or six calibers.
Would love to hear their take on this...

This is my first experience with Norma I usually use lapua, I'm not sure
How old they are I got them in a mixed lot of once fired brass but if they are
Like this I be hesitant to buy new

I did a search for good 300 wm brass and lots of folks said they loved there old Lapua brass. Kinda Ironic cause Norma made the belted magnum brass for them! Can we see the head stamp? I only see one in the picture not 15!

We all have "horror stories" about some lot of brass we bought from whatever manufacturer.. I have bought brass from Lapua that was so bad, I actually had to take a needle-nosed pliers to open up the case mouths before I could run them into a die.. Then I had to run them into a mandrel to get them "right" for neck-turning. I had to turn off 2K to get to to the place where MOST of the neck was turned and "ironed out" as it were. Then I had to fireform them to blow out the shoulders where the case was crushed into>>>I did not know if it would work>>it did and the brass was good to go from that point on. Needless to say I was VERY disappointed! I found out a year later about Kevin Thomas and told him of my "incident".. He promptly sent me 50 pieces at NO CHARGE! I had two VERY SOFT batches of brass from BOTH Lapua and Norma in my 6.5 x 284. Neither made it past 3 firings and the primer pockets were horribly loose. The reason I am saying this is NOT TO DISCOURAGE YOU OR BASH BRASS MANUFACTURERS, but to let you know that EVERYONE can and periodically does, make a lot or 2 of terrible brass! If you shunned everyone who periodically makes a bad batch of "whatever" (brass/ bullets etc) you would eventually run out of anyone to buy anything from.. I can easily sympathize with you, just don't let your "emotions" run you away from some of the best brass makers on this terra firma!

I just took out forty pieces of brass ( Norma) I had purchased for my 300 wm that I am waiting to get back from the Smith (Bob Green). I checked them by weight and 26 were less then a grain deviation and only one was over a 1.5g (2.5g) out and after visual inspection the necks seem to be pretty consistent and no visual dents! I would say much better then the Winchester brass I just purchased prior! I would like to mention that the primer pockets seem to be cut not stamped and the flash holes are deburred from the factory.

Well Ray here's a pic of the head stamps not sure why you needed to see them?
These all have neck runout of at least .005 not bashing Norma but for the premium price it's not acceptable. The lapua brass I load for all my rifles is
always .001 or less not trying to sell anyone on lapua but it is what it is.

If you got them in a group of brass that was used, how do you know they were not culled out and used for hunting because they were not good enough for bench work.I am not slandering but the same thing happened to me. I bought a bag of 50 new cases from someone and they all were marked and none of them were all that great.

John that could be possible heck for all I know it could have been Norma factory
loaded ammo it's just my first experience with Norma brass and it shocked
Me to see that as all I hear is great things about Norma brass

Fully agree with ShootDots summation. Personally I don't think it is right to accuse Norma or any company for that matter about poor quality on an open forum like this for something that you have that was once fired, range picked up, poorly neck turned, or what ever. That brass could have came from a poor chamber job or who knows what.

If I read your initial post correctly.... it is an assumption on your part that that is wrong "from the factory " brass. And when we assume........

I've used a bunch of Norma brass in my lifetime and I've never seen anything close to that.. JMHO. WD

Ray,
I bought them new in the box from Ralf Martini 3 or 4 years ago. I had a very nice Stainless Mauser receiver.

Built by Stu Satterlie. Didn't build it and still have the brass. I will measure a few later and send you a PM.

I do agree with this to a degree but please explain how a poorly reamed chamber has the ability to change neck thickness consistency

Rem6br,

I have read that Norma has been getting good reviews lately with there thinner brass, my brass appears to be thinner then yours.

Ray,
I would definitely buy Norma brass and wouldn't think twice about. I would venture to say this brass is probably about 15 to 20 years old. Their quality
Control I'm sure is much better now. I guess I found something you don't normally see. I sure appreciate all your guys input on it for sure ;D
