Norma 6mm Dasher Brass

I don't understand why Norma doesn't provide an update on their expected delivery date for 6 Dasher brass. I understand that regulatory approvals are likely needed, testing has to be to be completed, etc. but every company has a forecasted time line. It was announced around the time of the 2015 Shot Show that the 6 Dasher brass was expected to deliver in the US in late 2015. Late 2015 is here, should we all restart fire-forming or hydroforming 6 BR brass or wait until....when?

I keep hounding them every two weeks, but they are slow to respond and not with much detail. The latest is that they have not started yet. This means that it could be months away! This, despite the fact that I had placed a firm order for half a million pieces of the dasher brass at the SHOT show in January.

There is no one more frustrated than me as we could have sold half of that by now. That's the latest on the Norma Dasher brass project.

I think i would wait to get a reamer made until the brass is out and you could design it around the brass to maximize case life.

I don't see an issue with Norma brass and the reamers i have. Only difference i can see will be the base, using a reamer with a .4708 or a .4714 @ the .200 line. Norma is usually small at the base ….. maybe…. jim

Per Norma's website they make around 30 million cases a year; I guess they can slowline a 500k order without anyone getting enough heat to do something about it. I DO appreciate Shiraz's posting here.

If they produce 30 million cases a year and you divide that up by all the different brass they make, I would think Shiraz's 2 orders between the 284 and Dasher would make him a very significant client.

I think the email idea is a good one. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. But I think that should be Shiraz's call before we open that door.

Really? Could have fooled me because I use exclusively Norma and have been for years. I used it last month in Canada and it was on its 7th firing. Also, remember that like the .284 brass this Norma brass will have double stamped heads that will make the primer pockets hard and last for many more firings.

Having said all of the above, if people are waiting for this new brass and it is fairly urgent (next few months) I would most certainly fireform Lapua and make the Dasher brass.

Yes ,,Really,,,I realize that you are shooting F-class ,but that is belly benchrest,,I have shot every brand there is and know from benchrest experiense that you can use a load that works routinely in Lapua brass and if you use it in Norma (Im talking PPC or BR) you will have to pry the bolt open,,,and I know that different cases have diff capacity,,,if you load to the same velocity with the same powder ,,,it will be obvious,,,if you are using Norma brass you are giving up a lot of pressure which is equal to velocity and velocity and BC are what counts at both short and long range,,,why do you think that all the BR or Dasher shooters are using Lapua brass,,,,ooo I know Norma is hyping the double stamped head claim as the cure for soft brass,,If Lapua would ever make WSM or 300 H&H they would corner the market ,,,,I guess we will just have to wait and see,,,Roger

My own experience with 6BR Norma brass made into 6Dashers has been softer heads that yield less pocket life, and smaller base diameters then Lapua 6BR's, that increased stretch which also mitigate primer pockets and excess webbing.

At the same time, and not sure what Shiraz has requested for base diameter specifications, he has made it clear that the Norma 6Dasher brass will have "double stamped" heads. With that known, if the base diameter specifications come out larger (.469"-ish) I believe they should have potential to be good 6Dasher brass, and am excited to an upshot with them, unlike your own pessimism.

good morning one and all,,,I am trying to be realistic rather than pessimistic,,,I am a very optimistic person and hope this works out,,but realize how overly eager engineers at Norma have taken on a project like no one else has been successful at (I wish them the best of luk,,),,,,I have been dong this for 50 yrs and shooting competition for 40 yrs (just not F-class or in the circles involved with this project) and have made many ctgs with a 40 degree shoulder,,,my finding are that you have to "blow" the 40 degrees in an allready existing case,,,it is very difficult to form a ctg with this nearly flat shoulder ,,,for ever 3-4 that you try you get one,,,this is goning to be very difficult to do,,,and if double tapping the base is the trick ,,then Norma should do it to all of their brass,,,the solution may be to make the 30 degree shoulder that is moved the appropriate ammount (+.100 or so) and then shooters could FF them out the last 10 degrees,,,just shareing my trial and error experience,,,,those who think it is EZ ,,,,jus take a .243 and run it in a Dasher die or any 40 degree die,,,there is a big difference between reloading/resizing a 40 degree shoulder and forming one with a die,,,that is why you dont see any other "factory" ctgs with this radical shoulder angle,,,Roger

Thank you for the kind words, although, my wife would beg to differ on the "visionary" part .

Being a competitive shooter that tries all kinds of odd combinations, and hanging around a very .........what's the word, "anal", bunch of shooters who demand extremes from their equipment, helps a lot in being able to design or make changes to products that I would like to use myself, or that the market demands.

Dbramley - yes, I plan on taking the high road. When people make sweeping statements like that, it is often not worth a reply. Oh, and fantastic shooting with that 200-14x!

This question has probably been asked before but I really don't know the answer!

What is the reason that Shiraz (or Anyone) doesn't try to negotiate with Lapua for a dasher case contract ? I have been under the impression that Lapua was a smaller company then Norma, therefore more likely to "make a deal" with.
