NOOB Question??

I had the same 1/12 twist rifle. I could not get the lighter bullets to shoot well with any combination of powders. 168's with IMR4895 or Varget shot well enough to win 300yd comps.

I believe that the freebore in your chamber has an influence on the 155 gr bullets you can shoot.
Chambers that are throated for heavier bullets (like for "FTR" class) have longer freebores (.170"). My two Palma rifles are chambered with a .095" throated reamer. This chamber will shoot the 2155 SMKs, 155.5 Bergers, and 185 Berger Jugs all equally well. This chamber is throated too long for the 2156 SMKs.

Any of the 155 gr bullets, I shoot with either Varget or VV140. In my rifles, the lighter bullets shoot smaller, but that my just be a factor of stock adjustment. Heaver bullets recoil more and the rifle (remember I am a sling shooter) must be tighter. Can't let the gun get a run at you with a loose position.

Hey Ken, I am running that match and will be there most of friday. there will be several show up Friday afternoon. Worst case you can work up a load Friday afternoon. If you have plenty brass bring primed brass and i'll bring my wilson seater and powder measure. shouldn't be a problem. There will be several shooting to get ready for Saturday. John By the way i'm only 82 and wont be a curmudgen for three more years.
