I thought the reason for my poor accuracy is doughnuts forming in neck turned brass. I was hoping that NNT brass will have less tendency to form doughnuts.Ain't nothing wrong with a no-turn just as much as there's nothing wrong with turning a 284. Both work for top shooters out there but you need to figure out what you're ok with. Some people feel they do better one way or the other and also have different thresholds for time spent prepping and such. Test out your next batch of virgin brass without turning and then if you aren't happy with it, turn it and see how it goes. Only real thing to consider if you're going no-turn is if you have enough neck clearance. I run a .320 chamber and have about .007" total clearance on my custom 6.5/7prc and had about .004 on my .284.
Me personally, I haven't turned brass for years and don't miss it but that's me. YMMV and that's cool too.
Sort of, if you push them out with a mandrel and then turn them off it helps. I just make sure I seat above the donut and it's all good.I thought the reason for my poor accuracy is doughnuts forming in neck turned brass. I was hoping that NNT brass will have less tendency to form doughnuts.
Do you mean turning neck after several firings? I tried inside neck reamer and end up with bunch of neck-less brass LOLSort of, if you push them out with a mandrel and then turn them off it helps. I just make sure I seat above the donut and it's all good.
Yes, or use an IDOD which turns inside and out at same time.Do you mean turning neck after several firings? I tried inside neck reamer and end up with bunch of neck-less brass LOL
Your going to get donuts but just seat your bullets long and you dont have a problem, will have less tendency to form doughnuts.
I own a no turn reamer...284...and have loaded no turn. Then cleaned them up 50%. Also turned a couple hundred. They all shoot great. What are Your thoughts on No turn 284? Pros and cons?
When I ordered no-turn reamer Lapua 284 brass was available almost everywhere and I was tired of turning necks. Lapua brass is almost perfect in my opinion, i recently got my hands on some Winchester brass and I could not believe that company can sell such a crap. Not trying to be derogatory I was just shocked with all the dents, scratches and burrs! Working with quality components makes you forget how bad other stuff can be. Don't know how the other brass shoots but it looked awful. To be fair, Bergers under magnification don't look to good but shoot exceptionally well.I own a no turn reamer...284...and have loaded no turn. Then cleaned them up 50%. Also turned a couple hundred. The next 200 I fireform, I'm going back to a 50% cleanup, and call it good. Just to clean up the high spots. 284 likes a little room on the sides of the neck.
