Nikon Monarch

Curious if anybody has experience with a Monarch on a pretty heavy recoiling rifle? I have a fairly light 300 RUM and am considering putting a 4x16 Monarch on it. I've also seen conflicting reports on their actual eye relief so am a little concerned about having enough. Any other comments on the quality, clarity....of the current monarch's? Better suggestions in the 4x16 or 4x14 range. I like the Leupold's but the Monarch's are a lot less money right now.

Thanks,

"Leupolds" covers a lot of ground, and way too much of it is mediocre, like their Rifleman, VXI, and VX2 series. The Monarch is an excellent scope for the money, and there are no issues with recoil. Use the search function here, and on other forums, and even on Google, and you'll find plenty of info.

I've heard a lot of different side of the coin and that's why I was asking here. I heard the Monarch was great but wouldn't hold up under heavier recoil and that's why I was posting the question. I can search and have.

Anyway, personally I've had mixed results with Nikon's but most of that data is older. When I mention Leupold I was meaning the level comparable to the Monarch line.

I have Nikons on several hunting rifles from 6mm to 416 Rigby never an issue. Reliability with Leopolds or Burris's have been the same.

I have a six year old Monarch 3-9x on a .270 Win I've shot quite a bit, with no adverse effects from recoil. But the recoil of your 300 will exceed that by quite a bit. The only complaint about this scope is eye position is very critical or it blacks out.

I have two new 5-20X Monarch scopes and they are awesome. Eye position is no where near as critical as the previous models. The advertised 4 inches of eye relief is at least that, even at high magnification. These scopes are brighter than a 6-24x Sightron II that I have with the same objective size, and that is saying a lot cause the Sightron is really bright.
