Nikon Fieldscope 25x75x80

I am able to get the Nikon new for $999. Is there a better scope within that price range?

I would consider the Pentax PF-80 ED. Some say its just as good, if not better than the Nikon, others say its not. I guess this is debatable. I got mine from Cameraland in NY for $850 with the eyepiece.

I purchased the Nikon and compared it to the swaro zeiss and pentax. Did a resolution test with newspaper heading and a ten dollar bill and all performed well at 50 yds. At 75 yds the distinction became a little more apparent and though the swaro and zeiss offered a little bit more resolution the Nikon was still brighter, the pentax came in last no comparison. But in the pentax defense their optic lens that is supplied with the scope really sucks,20x60) It would be better of with a fixed power lens which are truly great. The difference was very minimal in the resolution and may not be noticeable to many people. The Nikon eventually out performed the rest of the scopes simply because it can magnify all the way to 75x maintaining its clarity and brightness all throught the magnifcations it offers. I truly believe that the Nikon is as good as the $2000 dollars scopes but at half the price. Best scope that money can buy at this level in my opinion.
