Nikon BDC Reticle

Considering the purchase of a new Nikon Monarch with the BDC Reticle. Does anyone have experience with this reticle for varmint hunting ? Thanks.

Chuck - Rupe

I have the 6-18x40 buckmaster with the bdc and I like the scope but the crosshairs are thick and I don't use the bdc I dial my shots but I got a good deal on the scope.

My buddy had the 5-16x44 w/BDC and its too large. When we hunt chucks it blocks out the targets. It would be useless on pd's.

I have one on a 7-08 used for deer hunting, I would think that the reticle is a little heavy for anything but close up work on varmints.

I'm not a prairie dog hunter, but I used a Monarch with a BDC reticle on small targets, prairie dog size) out to 300 yards with my factory .308 fairly proficiently.

i would think that if you are not using the same exact bullets they used when doing the bdc your performance might lack, seeing how all guns and ammo combinations do not perform exactly to each other, if you hunt with a 7mm and they set it up with 30-06 then the reticles will not line up for you because 7mm shoots flatter than 06, and varmit hunting requires more precision that big game hunting.

You just split the circles to fit your particular riflecaliber/bullet combo.

The above picture was while using the third circle, per the manual.
When I split the difference shooting the target @ 300 yards between the second and third circle, I came up with this.

My friend has this reticle-it's almost impossible to see a digger squirrel or other varmint at range,100+ yards) just covers them up.

Great scopes, but for varmints I'd with the Nikon fine cross hairs and dot.,Which I did :D)

Too busy. I use FCH Dot Nikon, love the lack of clutter. I scan with my scope shooting PDs, so I don't need the extra distraction.
