Nightforce SHV 3-10x42

looking for a scope to put on my Encore Smokeless muzzy.
Is the SHV 3-10x42 SFP with IHR bright enough for low light conditions.
They do not offer Illuminsted recticles in this model.
Thanks
Shane

I just got one of these and really like it. Also have an atacr and nsx. I put the shv on my precision AR.

I don't think anyone can answer your question about light. Everyone's idea of "lowlight" and "bright enough" will be different.

If we look at the basics, you can learn a bit. The scope you are looking at is the Nightforce SHV in 3-10 power with a 42mm objective lens. This tells us the the exit pupil will be 14mm at lowest magnification and 4.2mm at 10 power. Human eyeball can open to allow about 7mm shaft of light in after fully dialation (rested in dark condition). SO you can see that at 10X you could use a larger objective lens for maximum brightness at full power. But if you dial down to 6 or 7 power you will have not only a larger field of view, but a bit brighter image, and eye position behing the scope less critical.

But this is just part of the answer because light transmission is also dependent on lens quality, and Nightforce is very good here. This is a solid choice without going to a huge and heavier optic.

I own a shv nightforce and yes you will be able to see the reticle in low light. When it is dark enough not to see the reticle it is way past legal shooting hours.
