NightForce Scope Rings

I have a set of Leupold QR rings on a Barnard picatinny ramp and they have been lapped to suit my 8-32x56BR scope. Problem is they sight slightly to the left and if I rotate the rings thru 180 degrees they sight slightly to the right.

I want them to sight centrally to allow equal adjustment in both left and right. I have discounted the picatinny ramp from the problem seeing as rotating the mounts moves the misalignment in the other direction.

I think it might be easier to buy some new mounts, either the Nightforce Ultralite or the steel machined rings. I favor the steel rings but am open to recommendations. Do these rings require lapping and do these rings fit well into a picatinny base?

Now you know why lapping isn't recommended by ring makers, like Badger Ordnance. Would you rather have scope ring marks, or a scope that is off-center? Ring marks are cosmetic. Who really cares?

The Picatinny base is the design standard that all the major manufactures build their rings around. Get some Nightforce rings, mount them, mount your scope, and go shoot. Forget lapping. Keep it simple, shooter.

Thanks for your comments Nate!
The rings were suffering from misalignment before I lapped them and lapping didn't make it any better or worse. What do you think steel or ultralite Nightforce rings?

I bought a set of Nightforce Ultralite rings and installed them today. Perfectly central windage, zero) would be 25 MOA,50MOA total adjustment available on 8-32x56BR)and I got 28 MOA for my zero using a laser boresighter. As mentioned above, no need to lap these rings.

I'm happy? you bet! Its now a full 2 turns or 12 MOA better than it was.

The simple answer is to use a good bedding compound & bed
your scope into the rings. That will solve your problem &
help protect your scope from ring marks. Don't know how to
bed a scope ? The answer is in the Archives at the GVVG Board.
That is the Varmint Hunters Board. Paul Workman posted the
procedure.
