Nightforce reticle

Most I have talked to seem to use either the NP-R2 or the NP-2DD. A few use the CHs as well, but this would be a significant minority.

I have several NF scopes, and all are the NP-2DD.

A lot do use the NP-2DD and shoot very well with it. I may be too old to change my ways and use CH-1 in both my Nightforces. All my shooting is done in the Southwest, light is very rarely an issue and I have no problem seeing the reticle. Dimmer conditions would probably affect that negatively.

The NP-R2 has obvious attraction for wind and elevation holds.

I have two of these and they are BY FAR my favorite NightForce reticle for F-Class (I am a High Master).

CH-2: High-power competition
The CH-2 reticle is an efficient reticle, designed for high power and benchrest competition.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

Designed for long-range, high power competition, the CH-2 features a .200 M.O.A. dot on a .030 M.O.A. crosshair when measured at 22x. This .200 M.O.A. dot is calibrated for scored shooting on standard NRA high power competition targets.

This reticle was designed in response to extensive research conducted by Nightforce with the cooperation of the world’s foremost high power competitors. Nightforce is proud the United States Army Marksmanship Unit has chosen the CH-2 over all reticles for high power and benchrest competition.

USAMU’s use of this reticle in 5.5-22x56 NXS demonstrates Nightforce’s achievement in developing the best scope and reticle combination for the elite sport of long-range, high power competition.

FITS: NIGHTFORCE Models 5.5-22x50 NXS, 5.5-22x56 NXS, 8-32x56 NXS, 12-42x56 NXS, and 8-32x56 Benchrest, 12-42x56 Benchrest

How versatile is the NP-2DD? I'm looking at an 8-32X56 mostly for 100 yd but I also want use it for gophers (groundhogs here in Canada) and targets out to 1000yds. Is the NP-2DD a good choice?

I have three 8-32x56 NSX scopes with NP-2DD reticles on varmit rifles. They are asolutely awesome for me because I do not like clutter and I am a clicker for long range verminting. I just want the one clear picture!! I also have two 12-42x56 scopes with the NP-2DD reticle. I will NOT be changing to anything currently on the market.

Hi,

I have found the R1 to be very versatile.
I use mine for varminting and F-class. I crank elevation and hold windage...out varminting as wind is an unknown I have found that I can bracket a rabbit with the windage bars and typically I will be on for a hit. The reason I hold windage is the terrain and distances vary from one shot to the next (i.e. I can go from 200yrds to 500yrds back to 300yrds) so it is easier for me personally, to just track elevation settings.

For F-class I do the same thing but this is only for consistency in my process.

I think reticle chioce is mostly about personal preference.

I agree with Barry. I've tried other Nightforce reticles but keep coming back to the NP2-DD.
Now if Nightforce would come out with a similar reticle to the I.O.R. MP-8 I'd give that a go, but I won't switch from Nightforce to I.O.R. to try it.

I wish that NF would offer the NP-R1 in the BR scopes. I love this reticle. I don't like to crank windage because sooner later I'm going to go the wrong way. Until they offer the NP-R1 in the BR series I'm going to keep using the NP2-DD.
