Nightforce NXS 8-32 or Nightforce Competition 15-55 for my new FTR rifle

Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a scope for my Borden BRM FTR rifle I'm finishing for the spring. I'm torn between the NXS 8-32 or the Competition. I'm using a NXS 5.5-22 right now and I love it. I only wish it had more magnification so I can either sell it and go with a NXS 8-32 or a Competition.

Is the possibility of the Competition POA moving something to worry about?

Any input would be great thanks

Or wait for a 12-42 NXS with 1/8 minute clicks to come up for sale... Otherwise, I'd say NF Competition or Golden Eagle or NF BR 12-42... The NF BR 12-42 is a solid piece for F Class...

32 is a tad low on power. I haven’t had any issues with my comp other than its price tag. Great scope.

I would go with either the NF Competition or the Vortex Golden Eagle. I own the GE and love it. Used a 25x before and it just wasn't enough magnification at F-Class distances above 300 yards.
Having 15-60x with the GE makes a world of difference. Only regret is that I didn't purchase it first and worked up to it.

I used the 8x32 the 12 x 42 and the 15 x 55 Competition. All three gave excellent service with no issues at all. In my opinion the Competition has the better glass, it appears brighter and less grey than the NSX. The NSX models in my opinion seem more rugged and more likely to stand up to rough handling.
Never had any issue with POI on either of the two Competition scopes I have. If you are wanting more magnification I would choose either the Competition or the 12 x 42 NSX assuming a mint condition one comes available. Both are great scopes.

Thanks for the input guys. I will go with the Competition. I had issues with Vortex in the past and not interested in trying a GE at this time. I would love a 12-42 NSX but I've only ever seen for 1 sale in Canada.

What reticle do you guys prefer for the Competition? I was thinking FCR1 because I'm used to that kind of reticle with my NSX or the CTR2 looks nice as well.

I use the DDR-2 because of the dot, which I find helps me focus. I would go with the CTR2 based on your experience with the FCR-1.

I just sent my Comp back to Nightforce to have the CTR-2 swapped for the DDR-2. I found the dot too large after using it for a couple months. It's a personal choice... good luck!

I have the 15 x 55 Competition and love it, but am considering the golden eagle...mainly because it's about $850 cheaper.

Absolutely

Read through this thread where top shooters and smiths have been extensively testing all of the competition level optics. Its a long thread and will take quite a while to thumb through it, but if you are truly concerned with the scope you choose holding zero on target, it's well worth the time spent. They cover both of the optics you are considering, especially the NF Comp model with multiple tests for verification of quality (or lack there of). So grab a bowl of popcorn, get comfortable, and enjoy the education ;)

That is the thread that made me consider the possibility. Although I have talked to many people who use a Competition with no issues.

I decided to give one a try anyway just debating the reticle if it doesn't work out I will go back to a NXS but 8-32 and I know I will be happy with that.

Which reticle are you using?

I had a Vortex in the past and it left me with a bad taste so even though I have the urge to try a Golden Eagle. I can't bring myself to do it. I've heard many great things about them.

I like the MOA reticle, if I get the golden eagle I'll be using the ECR-1 reticle. Just noticed optics planet is having a 10% off sale. Makes it even more attractive. I have a couple days to decide; so what happen to your last vortex?

I had a PST it wasn't tracking properly and had issues with elevation adjustment also picture clarity wasn't great at high power and eye box was terrible at max power. To be fair it was a budget scope which I thought was a higher end scope at the time. I hear the GE and Gen2 Razor are in another league completely.

Same here. Had a gen 1 PST that had tracking issues. Glass was fuzzy on max power. Never could get it perfect. Gen 2 PST is supposed to be better. Will be looking through a Gen 2 PST 5-25x50 in a couple weeks to see if they've improved anything in the glass.

Razor glass is definitely a good step up from the Viper line, but still a good step down from the picture you get in high end alpha european glass. The worst part is the weight of the Razor scopes. Especially the Gen 2 Razor. I think my boat anchor weighs less. LOL
