Nightforce Competition Scope Test

nightforce comp.png

I normally do not post but felt it was necessary as nightforce has been very good to us short range benchrest shooters. I have no bone in this, unfortunately my data is only a small sample, hopefully it can be of use.

Tested 2015 Nightforce 15x55 Competition model and 2015 Leupold 40x Competition scopes (one each).

Used a 17 pound rifle, 6mm dasher and hood scope checker. In addition a frozen weaver 36x scope was used to compared with. All tests were conducted at 100 yards. Scopes were setup/checked using a sinclair alignment tools and lapping bars to insure scope rings were correct.

5-shots were used for each test set, no additional shots to let scope settle in after each adjustment.

Test 1 Nightforce 15x55 Comp

A. Both turrets set to zero...no movement that could be measured or observed
B. Both turrets turned both direction and then back to zero...no movement that could be measured or observed
C. One turret turned all the way up, the other turret all the way in (left in that position)...no movement that could be measured or observed.

Test 2 Leupold 40x Comp

Same test and same results...

Was a good day for testing, no marige, cloudy and 60 degrees.

PS: at 2016 short range nationals Tony Boyer and Waye Campbell along with many others were using nightforce comp's..

I read your results with the NF Comp with mixed feelings. I'm pleased to see you placed the test scope on the centerline and the fixed scope "outboard", and am also pleased for you that your NF and Leupold scopes held zero. I intend to test all of my scopes using the same setup in the near future. Unfortunately, if my Competition or NXS scopes also solidly hold zero, I will no longer have the option of stating, "Well, my reticle must have moved" every time I drop a point...yes, I know, it's a real dilemma ;).

What discipline do you shoot

F-TR stands for F-Class Target Rifle. It is one subdivision of F-Class. F-TR is categorized by the requirements of using either .223 Rem or .308 Win calibers, a bipod in front (rather than a front rest), and a maximum weight limit of 18.18 lbs (8.25 kg). The courses of fire are the same as for F-Open.

I was thinking the same thing, I was kinda liking the idea of having a good excuse for shooting that 7 or 8........:D

Have a second frozen 36x weaver scope for sale if this will help.. $400.00 plus shipping, the first one sold, this one has a raised fine crosshair, hence more money.

No scope mounts but for testing scopes will be ok without.
