Nightforce Competition 2014

Just rec'd my NF 2014 comp with FCR-1 reticle, speed turret and zero stop. I intend to use it on a 6BR for benchrest shooting out to 600 yards. Would like to hear any comments, experiences for this product.

Thanks

So we have heard a lot of good things about this scope in terms of its clarity, reasonable price, 0.125MOA adjustments, and I also think its weight. What is the down side if there is any? Is it a less durable scope because of its lighter construction? Less choice in reticles?

I went from using NSX'S to the Competition. Great glass! It did take me a few matches to get used to
the difference in eye relief and eye position. The competition is more sensitive. But, you get used to
it. Can't imagine using anything else now.

Thanks! Looks like eye relief is less 3.15" compared to 3.8". Elevation appears to be less 55 MOA compared to 65 MOA but windage is more 50 MOA compared to 45 MOA. That might cause some problem at extended range.

I read in many places that the only 3 NF scopes with HD glass are the Competition, the new BEAST, and the ATACR. Yesterday I received my second Competition scope and went to the range to mount it on. I met there a friend who was shooting his new all custom 6.5x284 rig sporting the ATACR scope. Out of curiosity I asked to look through. The guy wanted to look through mine. Well, gentlemen, in an instant we both agreed the Competition has a better "picture" more crisp with more pop/sharpness. Furthermore, all my buddies shooting NXS's who looked through my scope agreed it has more clarity. Please understand I am not diminishing the superb qualities of any of the aforementioned scopes; I am merely reflecting upon my personal field experience. And if I didn't already said enough (and here I may anger some users of the following mentioned scopes) I had the chance to look through two Schmidt & Bender scopes (both owned by one of my shooting buddies) and again we both agreed the Competition has better glass. I am simply reflecting on the glass and not any other features as S&B is an awesome scope. Please only chastise me on my claim if you had the chance to look through this scopes side by side.

I don't have much to compare my NF 2014 Competition to. I have a Vortex Razor HD on my .308, and have compared with an older Tasco 16x benchrest scope and the SWFA 5-20x, and the Competition is head and shoulders better than all of them.

I just ordered a NF Comp with the FCR-1 reticle my question is 20 or 40 MOA base and what hight on the rings? I am building a FT-R .308

I would like to hear some opinions on the FCR-1 reticle from people that have been using them to compete in F-Class. I am torn between this and the CTR-3. I use the target rings for windage holdoff if it is switchy, so I don't personally see the advantage of the hash marks. I know everyone has their own personal preferences, so I figured I would check here.

If you have shot a few matches with the FCR-1 reticle, how did you like it?

Do you use the hash marks for windage corrections?

Do you find the reticle busy?
Thanks in advance,

Ryan

Ryan,
I have two of them with the FCR-1 reticle. Ask me after the FCN's how I like the reticle. The FCR-1 has a reticle that is about 2x thinner than what I am used to (BR's with NP-R2's) and that is why I say that. The NP-R2 has hash marks also and I am never aware of them since I hold off on all my shots. Keep in mind the CTR-3 and the FCR-1 have the same thickness reticle lines. So I don't see any advantage to the CRT-3. If you are in the zone you should not notice the hash marks and numbers and who knows they might come in handy at some point.

Larry, I appreciate your input. I'm probably going to go ahead with the FCR-1 order.

Is there anyone else out there that has been using this reticle for competition?

I have to say I recently received mine with a DDR-2 recticle and I love it. Some say there is not much difference between the comp model and the br model but I have had 2 12x42br models and they don't begin to compare to the competition model not even close. Now I know you can get some various scope that imagine quality is better than another but I can take mine and put it on 55 power. "In the right conditions " and it is crystal clear. 45 power is usable at anytime and I live in Texas and we have mirage all the time. I think mirage is good for reading wind and conditions I'm just not a professional at reading yet as far as the Recticle goes I love the floating dot it is smaller than the br model and is not cluttered at all. My brother has the FCR and I don't like it. Depending on the background the crosshairs can be hard to see. I like that they are very fine but they could have made them darker.

I just got back from zeroing my NF Comp with FCR-1 reticle ;D :) Just 35 round and everything still works and not making any funny noises ;) (Leupold) I have a 300 yard match next weekend and I am looking forward to it.

My first impression of the Comp. The reticle lines are not bold but fine and the lines are not dark but just dark enough to be very workable. Now here is the comparison with the Leupold VX6 7-42. NF .07 inches longer and 1.57 ounces heavier but the NF comes with 3 inch sun shade. I like NF exposed and larger turrets than the smaller Leupold turrets. On the Leupold the graduation are stack very close to each other and the numbers and marks are small. It was very easy for me to move the turret too far on the 7-42, did I move 4 or 6 clicks. My poor eyes and big hands like the NF better. I have had no problem with the NF zero stop on the 7-42 the small turret would slip on me. Owner’s Manual’s NF wins hands down bigger with color pictures. The NF manual was for both the Competition and Precision each with its own sections. The Leupold was small fine print and even cover hand guns. I got the NF Comp with the FCR-1 reticle. I have only fired 35 rounds with this scope but I like it. The real test for the NF Comp will be next week end when I try it out a 300 yard high power match.

Any chance someone could take a photo through the FCR reticle on an F Class target at high magnification? I have one on order, now you guys are making me nervous reticle will be lost in the black.

I don't have that reticle but I have the Double dot. You wouldn't lose it in the black. I bet you won't lose the other one either. I heard nobody complain and there are plenty of them out there. The scope is really clear. Matt

I just finished a 300 yard reduce Palma match I shot 440 17x out of 450. First string I had 4 in the 9 ring it was overcast but I had no problem seeing the the cross hairs. Second string only one 9 and the sun had come out. Third string 5 in the 9 ring the wind:mad: showed up but it was blowing then it was not. The NightForce Comp with the FCR-1 reticle performed great and the best part everything is working and not making any funny noises.

willbas & dbrambley,
I used my 2 NF Competition 15-55x scopes with FCR-1 reticle in the AZ LRR & the 2014 FCN's last week. I am happy with the reticle even in high mirage. Tried it at 40, 45 and 55x.
