NightForce 15-50X competition scope

So folks--After the "Sturm und Drang" of the World Championships has settled; what is your opinion of this scope for F-class? Which reticule do you prefer? I am currently running a 12-42 BR NP-R2 and would like to get away from the front adjustment. That is the only reason. It's winter and I have a long time to "ponder", so I thought that I would ask.

NF 15-55x Competition: I do prefer the DDR reticle. Suits my needs for Varmint for score match's out to a maximum of 500 meters, the furtherest distance our match's are fired. Did recently use it on a 308, on steel targets to 1040 yards, and it met all my needs.

When I purchased mine last April, Bill Shehane told me that the vast majority of his sales are with the DDR reticle.

Also like the NP-R2 and the 2DD's on my Benchrest NF's. All very good choices.

I needed a lighter scope for my one light gun, so i tried a 15-55 and it didn't work. I replaced it with a 10-60 March. I was told by some that there is a charge to send a NF.comp. back, if they don't find anything wrong. If thats the case,i know an other brand that finds nothing wrong but it comes back fixed. They don't charge, so i would check this out first. NF. never charged me for any kind of repair,so i can't say this is fact, of course Leupold did either. I sent one March back and no charge also………jim

I would NEVER post negative things about a super brand that I did not know for sure. This is how rumors get started.

Jim, This guy knows more about long range shooting than most will ever know. He is no BS'er. and if he tells me they charged them they did. I could post quite a few negative things about the NF comp. 15-55 and i didn't…… jim

I just talked with Nightforce. Ask them if I send scope in and they find nothing wrong will they charge. Answer was a definate no. They said
they would" call you and let you know that you could take the scope out of the equation". They ship it back on their nickel.

If you doubt me, call them at 208 476 9814.

That is the way it was for me also but you never know any more. i don't trust any thing after seeing who is President second time and you can keep your present health care. I hope i don't have to send one back for awhile………. jim

OK--Now, Let's get back to my question. Those of you who use it for F class; do the adjustments work correctly and which reticule do you prefer? Other than the position of the focus adjustment being on the side, are the optics equal to or better than my BR. I saw that during and after the FCWC in Raton that some folks were questioning this scope. I would like to know if you feel it is worth it for me to consider this upgrade? I only have one match to go to get my HM card.

I don't shoot F class but i do shoot 1000 yds,i would wait till they have 10 min.per rev. Five min. you can get lost@1K. A few bucks more you can have a March 10-60….. jim

Have been using one on a TR class rifle and like it so far. Rarely ever go over 25X because of the range bake we experience here. Elevation and wind zeroes have been holding very accurately....and when I put on 3-6MOA it is what I get. Not much to really whine about except the cost. For that price I had half expected a romp or two with the sales manager's college daughter because I'm paying for her education.

I have two that I used all last season. It took me a while to get used to them. I had been using a NXS 12 x 42. I shoot groundhog matches at 200, 300 and
400 yards. The 10 ring is pretty small at 400. The first one I got had the center dot and it turned out to be a little to big. Sold it and got the DDR reticle
and really like them. Shot probably 25 or 30 mtches and they work great. At first kept power around 45, but got used to 55 and they both stay there now.
There is a learning curve, but for me I really like them. Jim

While I do not shoot F-Class I do quite a bit of 1000 yard shooting. I have owned at one time or another all of the high end scopes. Everybody's eyes are different so these are only my experiences. The 10-60 March that I had was sold as the eye relief on 60 power was too critical for me, just didn't like it. Sold it. I like the S&B 12-50x56 FFP very much & used it exclusively until the NF Comp. 15-55 came out. For my eyes the glass is far superior in my opinion. The optic that I compare all my stuff to is a Unertl 100mm Team Scope. In good light (normal shooting conditions) the NF Comp. scope is slightly better. While I have read about the reticle complaints I personally like the reticle (DDR) just the way it is. It works just fine for me.
When the funds are available I will be getting my 3rd NF Comp. 15-55. I have never had to send a scope back to NF. Any questions that I have had have been answered accurately & quickly. A Top Shelf company.

Which reticule are you using and how do you like it?

The one that I have used is the DDR reticle. It seems OK for my purposes, but I am far from an expert. Can hold very tight waterline holding off as far as I would ever want to, yet can still perforate the X-ring if it becomes a holding contest.

The last scopes that I used for LR Prone had the Leupold CPC crosshair and I really preferred that reticle over a dot, even at lower powers. But, this dot on the DDR really doesn't cover that much and at lower powers, you can still center it pretty well to get a high degree of precision. Of the 2 reticles that NF offers in this model, I believe it to be the one to have.

Unless I miss my guess, NF will be offering more reticles in this model very shortly, just because of some of the whining that had been going on.

Jim, I just received back from Bushnell a scope that I sent to them because there were lenses rattling loose in it. It took at least a month to get it back. They did fix it without charge however, when I got it back the box included an invoice for $10.00 for return shipping and handling. I wonder if Bushnell's charging policy could have gotten mixed into this equation? My only previous experience with sending scopes for repair has been to Leupold and their service was quick, efficient and there was no charge from them. As folks said, I will think long and hard before I ever buy another Bushnell product.
