Night force shv vs nsx

whats the difference in quality between the two, thanks for any input
I have the current 5x20x56 with the exposed turret. from the standpoint of tracking and repeatability and function and glass , none. for combat conditions, the nxs is more robust. for what I have used it for, hunting and shooting it is an awesome scope. if you get the forceplex reticle, don't waste your money on the lighted reticle, because you wont need it. I hunt in sc and we can shoot 1 hour after sunset legally. the forceplex reticle is awesome!

I'm like everyone else I suppose, lots of guns but few scopes,I always buy quality glass but the nxs line is more than I need,I'm like you only hunting, thanks.

optically there is no difference. the light transmission and contrast and clarity is no different, I have had nxs also.

Go with the SHV. You will appreciate the lighter weight. As the others have already stated, great glass and repeat-ability of the turrets.

I just sold my SHV 5-20 and if I keep the rifle it was on, I was selling, I'll buy another. I had the MOAR reticle which is great.

Sorry I cant comment on the NXS, I have looked thru them, but don't own one. What I can tell you about the SHV is that it has very good glass for low light performance. When I first got mine I was disappointed. it didn't seem to perform too well at the edge of dark.
What I discovered was that if I played with the power, then played around with the reticle focus and parallax it really performed above expectations. In fact, I have to say that it rivals many high end scopes in it's price range and a few that cost more. One thing I suggest is to test and mark all three for best low light performance so when you are in a stand and it starts to get dark you can set it to the marks without a bunch of movement and playing around.
I also like the reticle for hunting. All this is saying something, because I have never been a "fan" of Night Force, but they hit a home run with the SHV as far as I am concerned. When I first got it I thought it wasn't holding zero. A quick call to the service dept. got that straight...it says in the manual that you have to mount it on mil-spec bases and rings. Once I got them it zeroed perfect and has been dead on ever since. I don't know about the NXS for low light, but I can promise you wont be disappointed with the SHV.

I am a lifelong Nightforce Owner beginning with the 12-42 Benchrest models to the ATACR 5-25 with the Tremore-3 reticule. I did not care to have a NXS because it was the weakest in glass capability of all the other Nightforces I had bought or used. The SHV is so good for the money that if it works for you power wise and has enough elevation for your use, you can stop looking and even save money on others costing much more. Their customer service leaves most all of us smiling even though it is RARE to need to even call them.
