It is interesting to see that some short-range BR notables are proving their capabilities at 600--even without a forest of windflags. Congrats to Don Nielson,Overall winner), Ron Tilly,Second Overall), Lou Murdica,Third Overall), and all the competitors. We're told Don was shooting a 6.5x47 Lapua with custom bullets. Don shot a pending new 10-shot NBRSA Heavy Gun Record of 1.777". We hope to have more details about the match in our Monday edition of the Bulletin. Here's an initial report from Forum member Lynn:

NBRSA 600 Yard Nationals Dominated by "The Pumpkin"
"Well the SloughHouse 600 Yard Nationals are in the books and Don 'The Pumpkin' Nielson took home the top honors and the Shehane ST1000 stock. He dominated from the start and never looked back despite some good wind/rain that tore up the range cover. He may also have set a heavygun group record pending official measurement. I didn't bring home the paperwork but somebody should have the group size when they finaly make the long trip home. It bested the old record by a decent margin.

Ron Tilley dominated lightgun and finished 2nd overall followed by Lou Murdica in 3rd.

A huge thank you goes out to Ed Eckhoff for running another great match. My father finished 2nd in heavygun score and 3rd in heavygun group while I failed to place making for a tough ride home." --Lynn

Don Nielson started with a 6-6.5x47 in Light Gun and a 6.5x47 in Heavy. But since both rifles made weight for LG,17 lbs.) he switched over to the 6.5x47 for both classes after seeing how well the 6.5 was shooting on day one. Don's 6.5x47 load was Fed 205m primers, Reloader 15, Lapua brass neckturned to .010" wall thickness, and Swampworks 130gr 6.5mm JLK bullets.

"Plane Jane" 6BRs shot by Ron Tilley and Lou Murdica finished 2nd and third overall.
