Nice Hydro Dip Experience

Based on a recommendation on this forum, I sent the stock for my new F/TR rifle to Tactical Graphics in Melbourne FL. They did a great job and got it back to me very quickly. I'm ready to test it tomorrow.

I've had three stocks done now. They hold up as well as any painted stock, mine all have clear coats over the painted/dipped pattern.

There seems to be some pricing variations depending upon who does it, where they're located and what you want done. I was quoted anywhere from $125-250 on mine. Don't know what the OP might have paid. I wanted a black cherry carbon fiber look for my last one & it was $175 plus return shipping. Places told me it would be extra due to "candy" colored paint job underneath the CF water transfer graphic.

So far it still looks brand new, but it's only two days old ;)

The real question is how I managed to get my .223 F/TR gun in the 6MM forum. I also shoot 6mm BR in F Open, but you'd think I would be able to tell the difference. Old age is Hell.

I don't have the invoice handy but I think the normal price of a stock is around a hundred bucks plus twenty five for the two piece cheek rest and another twenty five for the two tone base coat. That's not exact, but if you check with Tactical Graphics they can give you an exact quote.

looks real nice.

I have a laminated wood savage stock. I read you cant dip it because of the water used in the process.

:(

I own several laminated stocks. I've never had one hydro dipped because I like the laminated look. I don't store them outside in the weather but if, for example, I was caught out in the rain I doubt if I would have to throw my gun away if it got rain on it. If that were the case, nobody who went hunting would dare use a laminated stock.

Assuming a laminated stock is properly sealed, why wouldn't it be OK to dip it? It's only under water for a matter of seconds and the primer and base coat are going to protect whatever is underneath be it wood, fiberglass, or metal. Plus, the dip guys claim they can dip almost anything including laminated stocks.

They even dip scopes and I doubt if most people consider a scope is something which deserves to be under water. I can't remember the last time I went SCUBA diving with my Sightron.

You didn't happen to read this admonition on the Internet, did you?

when I started looking into hydrodip I contacted one of the large companies out west doing this work. they emailed me telling me laminated stocks wouldnt work. I will look into this again. thanks

I think it's where they take sugar cube and melt them down and place the action and barrel in it then let it cure.
Makes for a really sweet stock.
