NF competition vs BR model

For those who have both or had both are the new NF competition model scopes really worth an extra grand difference against a new BR model?

I'm trying to decide between a new 15-55 with the FC R1 reticle or the 12-42 NP R2 reticle

James, i have both.......To me its worth it because the new comp scope is lighter and i wanted the weight savings in my FTR rig.......The glass is better on the comp scope and its definately nice to have but would i pay the extra cash for it if weight wasn't a factor?.......Probably not.

Yes, Yes, and yes.
It's lighter - Gave me more leeway on the weight of my gun
E.D glass - it's defiantly better than the BR which is good too
Turret - 10MOA per revolution and it's REALLY easy to see and use

At $900 difference I would do it.

I have both, The comp is an amazing scope. Nice glass, side adjustment, reticle I like. BR is a great scope also. I guess it depends on weight. Both or excellent scopes.

I like mine, the 2013 models can be had for $1600, the reticle isn't the best and the adjustment knobs could use some improvement, both of what they did on the 2014 model. So I guess what I'm saying is the 2013 model for $1600 is a great choice over the BR, I also have a 2014 model and love it, but I haven't convinced myself to sell the 13 and upgrade it to the 14 model. Both are superior to the BR and the NXS in my opinion, and have those too., well sold the NXS and replaced it with the 14 comp model. And will more than likely replace the BR with a competition

Thanks for the input guys. I sold my March scope and now waiting for funds to arrive so I can replace the scope with a NF. I made weight before on my LG using the BR model so that wasn't an issue for me. I just wanted to know if the price difference between the two was worth the extra cash. It looks as though it is so now I need to make sure of my reticle choice this go around.

My 14 model has the FCR-1, my next one will too. I really like it, not to busy and works great for hold off's

I am going to get a new Comp. I currently run both a BR and an NXS.

Things important to me:

Lighter than either the BR or the NXS

on the new 2014 version 10MOA per rev better than the 6 on the BR, the same as the NXS. I've gotten lost on the BR several times when I was shooting in big winds. Not during that match but ended up starting the next match a full turn off of no wind zero. This was the deal breaker for me on the 2013 version, it has 5MOA per rev, even less than the BR.

Better glass is an eh.. for me it's a black target on ivory paper. I can see it with about anything.

cant say on the BR but the comp 15x55 i just got is unreal with DDR-2 ..glass is awesome so much better than my NSX 12x42 ...money well spent

Really wish I could find a competition to look threw. I'm trying to decide on one for the wifes new rig. Between a used 12x42 nxs or the new comp scope. We both like the 2dd reticule

The glass is so much better on the comp. I can see the x and the ring numbers which I can't with the BR or NXS. I like the dot on the comp also. I shoot 1000 yard Br and don't worry about hold because I click to spotter. Matt

I Had The B R Nightforce np-2 dd nd I Have Two Nightforce Competition A 2014 Model Crosshair With Small Dot And A 2013 Model With DDR Reticle Love Them Both Side Focus is Nice If You Look Hard You Can Find The 2013 Model For Around $1800.00 New & $1600.00 Used.

James

I have both and as stated above the Competition is an exceptional scope. With that said, the 12-42BR is no slouch. If you have the funds opt for the Competition. If funds are tight the BR is a great value.

Good shooting

Rich

I have two comps, a 2013 and a 2014. I've avoided the BR's because I hate the AO, much prefer side focus, and the BR isn't available with a reticle good for what I'd be using it for. Anyways, I can't comment or compare on the BR's for that reason. I've looked very hard at March's also. I'm curious as to why you sold the March to swap for a NF. From what I can tell, they're neck and neck for performance, but of course, I've never looked through a March. I'm always trying to learn though.

The cross hair and the tiny dot I had in mine I was loosing them on target. If I took my time I could refocus to them but in a match I don't have that sort of time to find the dot in my scopes.

Roger that. That makes sense. I've looked at the specs on the March reticles (the ones that interested me anyways) and they seem to be thicker than the lines on the NF. I don't seem to have a problem losing mine, but I don't shoot competitions and I have all day. Thanks for clarifying. I'll keep that in mind for the future if I ever decide to compete. I'll likely have that problem with my scopes then.

I have a new Comp, and a 42NXS and a 32BR. I use them for F class shooting. My older scopes have an NP-2DD and my new one has the newer DDR2. All have 1/8 MOA clicks

I've always liked the clicks on the BR better than the NXS, but the BR only has 6MOA per rev on the windage turret, and that's gotten me lost at least 3 times that I can remember. The new Comp gives me 10MOA per rev and clicks that are probably better than the BR.

It is close to ½ lb lighter. I scaled my rifle last night and with my Duplin Bipod it's 16.55 lbs. I need to put more barrel on it.

At 55 x the Comp is darker, I assume it is just a function of high mag and light transfer. I find that in less than really good light I run it at about 45 a lot of the time now.

The eyebox seems a little bit shorter than either of the other two scopes, but not so much that I noticed it after the first couple of times I used it.

Total elevation on the Comp it huge compared to either the BR or the NXS. Both my BR and my NXS needed a 30MOA rail for my Remington action. When I ordered my Definace Rebel action a few yrs ago I had them make a 30MOA rail for it. Turns out that it didn't really need it, and I couldn't get a zero closer than 300 yards, and that was on the very bottom of the travel. It was fine with me, I almost never shoot the rifle inside 600, and at 1000 the elevation was closer to center which I think is easier on the springs. With the new Comp I can get down to 100 yards, and still be in the middle of the adjustment at 1000.
