NF Benchrest question

I put a nightforce Benchrest 12-42 scope on a 6BR and shot it over the weekend.

With a 20MOA rail on the rifle and the turret turned down as low as it would go I was 14MOA low at 100yds.

Has anybody experienced this before? From what I have read being that there is only 40 MOA of adjustment with a 20 MOA rail you should just barely be able to zero without bottoming out the turret. The scope rail is 100% installed the correct way

What kind of action? The rail might be 20moa but the front and rear rings of the action probably aren’t in spec. Not uncommon at all. You can bed the rail to correct it.

Savage target action with vortex PMR rings

You might want to try the Burris XTR Signature Rings. That is what I had to use on mine. I had a 20 moa base but cannot remember what inserts I used. I have other scopes with the XTR Signature rings and really like them. I have a NF 12-42 on my FTR Rifle with the XTR Signatures and really like the way they work. You might want to give them a try. They come in 1” rings and 30mm. Don’t know if they come in 34mm or not.

Might look at the bottom of the page at times because a lot of times they put articles that have been discussed close to what you are seeking.
maybe it might give better examples. I know I’m well pleased with the ones I have on my rifles. Another plus is the Delrin inserts will not scratch your scopes.

Sounds about right to me. Come up 14 MOA and you will be zeroed at 100 yards. This will leave you with around 26 MOA elevation. To zero at 500 with a 6BR come up another 9-10 MOA . This still leaves you another 16 MOA adjustment which should get you to around 800 yards before you top out.
For the distances I shoot I like to keep the scope as optically centered as possible but to go from point blank to 1000 yards with a 40 MOA scope is pretty much going to top it out.

just using burris sig zee rings with the inserts with wat you have you can prob get another 20 moa more if thats wat ur after.

How do you have the inserts installed?
You should have a zero or a minus ( -10, -20) in the front BOTTOM ring half, with zero or a plus (+10, +20) in the top ring half. The rear ring would be the exact OPPOSITE + on bottom and minus - on top.
You should not be low if done like this.

I do not have any inserts in the rings. They are just the standard Vortex PMR.

I do have a 20 MOA scope base installed though

So I was only using the scope for load development, got a new scope in the mail today.

I guess it is possible that the scope rail is out of spec, I had to come down 14 1/2 MOA to bore sight from optical zero on the new scope
