NF 8-32 vs. 12-42, differences?

OK, I'm getting closer to buying a Nightforce BR model, however, there is little difference in the cost of a new 8-32x56 and a 12-42x56. Other than magnification, are there any other differences? Is the 12-42 that much heavier? Is the 8-32 a little more practical?

Most of my shooting will be from 300 yards in.

I purchased the 8-32X BR with the CH3 reticle and should have got the 12-42X BR. I compete out to 500 yards, and the extra magnification would be nice to have, to see my 6mm holes, in the white part of the target.,if the conditions are right/mirage isn't too bad) I am very happy with the CH3 reticle for shooting paper ground hog targets.

I have the 12x42 and my friend has the 8x32. I like the extra power. The only advantage to the 8x32 is for close shooting and the wider field of view for the 8x. Unless you were planning on using it for very close shooting too I would go with the 12x42 for the same money.

I sold all my 8x32 NF's and replaced them with 12x42's..
I like the additional horse power if and when it's needed..
I can shoot tighter with the 42 than I can with the 32
