I have a Shehane tracker stock with a BAT M action, I'm getting a Kreiger 8 twist HV barrel and going to have @gunsandgunsmithing chamber it (this is a build for next year), the reamer is a no turn neck with 99 freebore. This is to shoot 200-600 yards and thinking of using 80 GN FB and 95 GN Berger VLD. What powders should I be looking for? (I have a little Varget and N130). Am I overlooking anything? Need to change anything? Give me some feedback!!

Clancy what are your findings with N140 and 105gr bullets?
I've happened into 12# of it and will be starting load development with it soon.
If Varget were just a quarter shade hotter and didn’t eat your barrel like a bag of skittles, it would be N140.

I love N140, and I won’t go back. I’m not comfortable sharing load data, but it’s awfully close, just a tick hotter.

There is a good demonstration with different bullets. In a post from Boatschool02 using a 0.055 freebore. It’s gives info from jam of several different bullets and shows them in conjunction with the shoulder/neck junction. I use varget because that’s what I have. I feel sure that there are better powders depending on your bullet, primer and load. I have found it’s easy to get this caliber to shoot but it can be consuming. Meaning ”if I did this I wander if I can tighten my group up some” ect. I generally end up with 30 grains of varget and bullet at touch. That’s just me please work up your load from published data.

I would not fret the .099 freebore, I think it’s perfect, and as others have shown you can get by with less or more.

Varget will work great, always has.

For 600 you might think more about the 88 Berger than the 80?

I just started testing the 90 gr BT for the first time and it’s clear that they will shoot small groups as well.

My go to everyday 6BR has a four groove 26"1-8T Krieger Barrel. blueprinted R700 action PTG bolt, jewell trigger.McMillan Lazzeroni TH stock.N135 was mediocre with 85grn bullets,bergers,Sierras..Varget really lit it up.85grn Sierra varminters really shoot..low 2's.rabbits and crows 500yds are the norm.Varget is the power for this barrel.
