Hi All
I'm approaching the halfway mark on my 6.5 Creedmoor (1300) or at least what I think the barrel life is
Due to the 6 month licensing process for a new barrel (South Africa) , I'm unsure between
( I'm mentioned the Cons) for PRS
A 6br variant - trace is minimal, wind effects are greater
25 creed - bullet availability is bad
6.5 creed - same old
6.5 x 47 - 6.5 creed who went to private school

You didn't mention if you reload or not? If so you would need to replace dies and possibly bullets. I have no love for the Creed, but nothing on you list has a significant advantage. I think sticking with something you have, and know (ballistics) may be best. If you don't load 6.5 creed may be the easiest on that list to find ammo for. I have a large 7mm that is hard on barrels, last time I had shoot out a barrel I was on the Bartlein site to order a new one i just ordered 2. Is that a possibility for you? If you are going through all the hassle why not get 2 or more at the same time then when you need a fresh one it is waiting in the safe???

Being in South Africa, you may want to look at the Peregrine Bullets.
If your leaning towards the 25 caliber, they offer some heavy monolithic bullets.

I'd personally love to try some, but getting them in the US is bothersome at best.
That and I'd have to either rebarrel or build another rifle to shoot them.
Currently only have 1:10 twist barrels.

They do offer , but not as higher BC as black jack , bergers and hornady

Load work ups with 6.5-47 and 135atip 3 shot group at 600 yds

Aai unfortunately that "6 Month" waiting period is more like 3 years and that's when they are actually approving barrel replacements and remember if you want to change caliber that's is another set of hoops your going to have to jump through AFTER you received approval for the new barrel, this is no easy task you undertaking in the country we life in

Easy answer is just to stick with the Creed unfortunately and the real easy answer is to sell your rifle as a donor when the barrel starts going and then just buy another Howa or Tikka

I don’t know what your average target range in South African PRS match’s are but I’ve had great results with Berger 130gr hybrids in my 6.5x47 out to 1,200yds. And I’m pretty sure you could get the same performance in your 6.5 creedmore with a good brake it’s very manageable.

From your choices…6.5x47 Lapua. In my hands all of my 47’s I’ve chambered have been fantastic as far as ease of tuning, etc. more forgiving than the few 6.5 Creedmoors I’ve had. 6.5x47 Lap 1-8” twist 28” finish length with .167” freebore or thereabouts and it will shoot 130’s up to the 147’s. It’s just too easy.

Not a PRS shooter, but I know how hard it is at times to get supplies in SA. There is nothing wrong with what you've already got in the 6.5 Creedmoor, and factory ammo is probably more readily available than the other cartridges too. Don't over look the 6mm Creedmoor and you could neck down your brass if you reload.
