Hey ya'all,
I've been stalking this site for several weeks now. Finally decided to sign up.
I helped a buddy of mine move out of state and he surprised me with a brand new Savage Target Action. He and my brother are much more into shooting than I am. Basically, their kids are grown and mine are 7 and 4 so I'm pretty well covered up, but I get a little time.
Anyhow, I'm having Hart barrel the action and they can have the action and barrel teflon coated. Or I can duracote it myself for a lot less money. I'm not crazy about the look of stainless.
My question: Is the Teflon coating durable enough that I'll be happy with it? I understand the duracote can/will chip. For the price it's easy enough to touch up. Teflon will cost $220 if it does get chipped, can it be repaired without a complete strip? I'm thinking duracote it and take the saved money and put it towards a McMillan stock or better optics.
By the way my travels get my by Jim Harts shop at least monthly. I stopped in and Jim and Karen are very nice people, they have a great family and a neat place. It was covered with about two feet of snow, but that's their problem
So far I'm building: 6mmbr, Savage target action RBRP, single shot, Hart 26" 3grove, 1:8 twist, LRPV contour, rec. target crown, Stockade PDS stock, Burris XTR rings, SuperSniper scope, Harris Bi-pod, gotta figure out a scope rail
So whatcha'all think? Is teflon the best thing sinced sliced bread. It'll be a varmint shooter for as far away as I can shoot them. This gun for me is a HUGE step. I never would have thought it possible, but it's just working out. I have all the reloading equipment. Up until this rifle it's always been for factory rigs.
Thanks in advance for any comments,
Jeff
