newbie question on 6.5 creedmoore

my question is 6.5 cm hard or soft compared to lapua. i am not sure but i have read that horandy brass were soft or not as strong. correct me if i am wrong or give me the right info. i am debating between the 6.5 cm or 6.5 lapua.
???

The original batches of Hornady brass seemed to be soft, but the later batches are supposed to be harder (I am still using the 500 pcs of original, 1st run brass that I got and have not had any issues if I used sane loads...now, if I went overboard, I blew out the primer pockets, but then, thats what happens when you get greedy on speed!). I have some pcs that have over 20 firings on them.

While I love Lapua brass, I still went with the 6.5 Creedmoor and have several rifles chambered in it. So, you know what I would choose if I were choosing again. ;)

I've only ran the newer stuff and it seems to take abuse pretty well. If you load it to factory-ish velocities with H4350 or Reloder 17 you should be able to run it many times without issues. I'm velocity greedy and I'm being hard on it and I'm still getting about 6-8 loadings before I have to chuck them; it's cheap enough brass that it doesn't bother me to replace it now and then.

They're both good cartridges, I'm not sure which would be more accurate but the Creedmoor wins as far as velocity.

So yes, the Hornady brass is softER than Lapua but so are most other brands. The Lapua is also about $.85-$1.10 per case whereas the 6.5CM Hornady is about $.60-$.70 per case so it ends up coming out about even I'm guessing. I don't worry about it too much personally as I spend a lot more money on bullets, primers and powder than I do on brass.

Good luck,

Wayne
