new yellow "crack" dispenser / do they work?

I built this feeder years ago and almost forgot about it. The SS worm gear clamps had grown into the hickory tree where I put it up. I used a wood chisel to cut the clamps out of the bark. I put it up on a tree behind my house. I have a lot deer that come in my yard to feed. Do any of you guys have any experience with one of these? Do you think deer will eat field corn from the 4" wye?

Want another trick.... go get a thing of JIF peanut butter (plastic jar), unscrew the cap and run a screw through the center into a tree, then screw the jar of peanut butter to the tree, take your knife and cut the bottom off, the jar should be about 3 feet off the ground. Set up a camera and enjoy the comedy, they will lick that sucker clean in no time. Only thing better than corn is peanuts.

But to the original post, yes, the will eat it out of there, coons and squirrels will have a hay day too

One day, Im sitting in my tree stand, and I see a squirrel come along and set his butt on the mouth of the “Y”.

He then proceeded to fling corn with both his front “hands”...to all his little buddies on the ground below.

It was quite a party...birds, racoons, and squirrles all were livin it up as corn rained down from above.

They are about to drop their horns around here. Get you a couple trophy rocks too, and a bag of salt to get them on it in a hurry. They will use it all summer. Dig a hole in the dirt all the way around it! Salt to a deer is like cake to a fat kid.

You just thought the corn was the crack... give them the white rock they really want (salt). Salt does nothing for them physically, but the trophy rock will. Salt just gets them on it.

Just a caution. I think your feeder has the potential to spread bovine tuberculosis. When I feed deer, I try to do so, their noses/mouths aren't in close proximity. It can spread the disease since deer don't normally have that contact.

They love that Trophy Rock!

Sometimes, I would have to look for the damn rock, and bring it back to the stand cause they licked it 50 yards away. Mine was as smooth as glass!

I don’t know if I can find the picture, but I had two rocks in one location, placed about this time of year, but the time the season came around there was a 4’ crater 8” deep where they ate the dirt! I like putting them where they get run off from rain, on the edge of a hill near the bottom of a flat area. Way more bang for your buck, pun intended, bc they will literally make that thing disappear once they find it. It literally is crack to a deer. All that other stuff they sell is junk compared to a trophy rock, save your money on the food plots and the rocks! As for the disease, I’m sure there is some merit to that. I got rid of my pipe feeders once hunting over corn was legal. The law here in SC was so screwed up for years. You could legally hunt over corn, but not put it out. What since does that make? And 60miles away it was 100% legal and season opened August 15. Which is way to hot btw.

I actually don’t hunt over corn anymore. I use it strictly to keep deer in the area and comfortable. Also very helpful for surveying numbers and growth, and how many yotes are in the area following the fawns around. Usually feed a little all year and heavily Jan/feb when browse is hard to find and July/August to see what’s around

Wow, I certainly don't won't to promote or precipitate any diseases for deer. Maybe a dispenser with some Listerine?
I will put out a Trophy Rock and or NACL. tks for all the input and replies.. I'm just having fun with these critters.

try a good beef granular mineral--consumption depends upon what they want/area you are in. some places they like it as much a t rock, some places they wont eat much---lots cheaper, pour a few pounds in a little hole, cheap to try.
hi mag is bitter--try a summer mix

Where ever you have corn, you'll deer, period. They will eat it from the grain sack and figure out how to get in it if left out long enough. Those feeders are nice. Typically two problems with them. Usually they run out way to fast and they can be hard to fill with one person. I found some 12" PVC along with the top cap and an elbow for the bottom. It's 6 ft long and holds roughly hundred pounds of corn or close to it. I only use 100 normally and it lasts only a few days. The feeders I had were only 4-5" and they ran out daily.

"Oh look, a new feeder." One found it last night.. No pics of deer actually eating from it yet.
