New X-Caliber barrel just arrived

Back in Dec I ordered a new 6.5 CM barrel during X-Caliber's 25% off sale. Expected delivery was 8-10 weeks, but it came in yesterday after only 6 weeks, and it looks absolutely perfect!

The barrel is a Savage small shank prefit, 24 in, SS, heavy contour with a .900 dia at the muzzle.

Took out my Teslong borescope for a look see and found the internal machine work to be just amazing. Transition from neck to throat to lands appears to indicate the chamber reamer was perfectly centered in the bore. All the rifling appears defect free indicating a decent bore/ream job at the outset and a lapped finish. Also a nicely honed chamber.

Should make a hecka shooter once I get it screwed on an action. Probably use a Savage 12FV action I have laying around with a red blade Target Accutrigger. Haven't decided what stock I'll use but I'm partial to wood and like to keep it under $300. Any suggestions?

I'm hoping the barrel i ordered in early Dec comes soon. I got one for a Remage in 280AI. Good to hear you're happy with the results.

I ordered a Savage Laminate stock, what used to be called the Bobby Hart LRT, from Stockys for my 12FV that I put an X-Cal 6mm Dasher barrel on. I love the one on my 12FV with an X-Cal 22-250 AI barrel, bedded with devcon, it shoots amazing. I'm around 500 rounds and there's no cracking or anything yet, still shoots half MOA routinely.

Good luck with the barrel. The couple X-Caliber pipes I've had were really finicky. I don't use them anymore.

For an affordable wood stock, I'll put in another vote for Boyd's. I use them on all of my varmint rifles for years and have nothing bad to say about them.

Boyd's now offers optional aluminum pillar installation.

That's awesome, thanks for letting us know.

It's a pain in the arrrzz making the rear pillar. I'm not sure if anyone sells Savage pillars, but certainly can't buy any in Canada.

This is not my first X-Caliper. First one in 6BR still shoots amazingly well.

Boyds is finally offering pillar bedding, so that puts them on par with some others I've used. They do have some interesting designs.

Starting to think in terms of another Richards Microfit. I'm always looking for another project, it seems.

Don't need to MAKE them, you can buy the exact same one Savage uses online, cheap.
Look under bedding supplies at Stockysstocks.

I'm not sure if they'll ship to Canada. I know they can't ship their stocks with out some paperwork and $ 200+ in ITAR fees.
Boyd's does ship to Canada. But they don't sell Savage pillars separately. And I just looked on their site and it looks like they might only offer installation for the front (the easy) pillar. But I could be wrong.

May not even apply now that the whole issue of firearm manufacturing being moved out from under Dept of State an placed under Dept of Commerce.

I'm not getting my hopes up LOL

Our Crime Minister Trudeau is on the brink of banning AR-15's and other military looking rifles, and re-classifying all other semi-auto rifles.

Go to to Stocky's page and look down at the bottom for shipping and export information. It says they can ship items valued at less than $500 to Canada.

Thanks !
that's awesome !

I hope that's with out any additional government fees.

Last time I checked their site was 4 or 5 years ago and they required paperwork.
