I got loaded lapua 223 ammo 55 grain fmj for only 49 cents apiece at (ammunition store) on line. That is less than empty brass ! It is match grade,= to my 69 mk loads in accuracy.

Thats what happens when accountants run a company. They do not understand that high quality and lower cost go together when things are done the right way. After wwii Japan proved it again by adopting "old" US philosophy.
Had a few bags of 25-06 Winchester brass with bad primer pockets. Looked like 8th grade shop class punched them out with a framing nail. Powder valley told us to call Winchester. Turned into quite the fiasco.
Winchester used to be the best VALUE brass brand. All of my 300WM is still Winchester because it is "blue bag" stuff >5 years old on its 8-10th loading. Don't recall culling a single case back then.
It has been at least 5 years since I bought bottleneck Winchester brass that was worth it. TERRIBLE QC, far worse than any other brand. I wouldn't rank it above anything else at this point and will never buy it again.
I believe Olin (Winchester) has sold off the brass making mill, but the ammo plants still draw their own cases.I have heard that Winchester (Olin) has out sourced the manufacture of their brass. Outsourcing seems to be the new norm, has been for quite a while!! While 20% rejection rate is high, a nice letter or a courteous phone usually will work. It always has for me. If it doesn't, you have several options to exercise!
