New Tuners!!

Our new barrel tuners...
PDT stands for particle dampening technology. The science is there, we just applied it to a barrel tuner. The advantages are a wider tune window and more efficient control of barrel harmonics...in a tuner design that actually looks good. Will begin shipping next week. We will have tuners that work equally well on both centerfire and rimfire rifles, and can use your PRX length in most cases!

I like the idea, I might just want one (or several).

I've got a few questions:
Barrel diameter under the tuner?
Threads?
What is the diameter at each end of the tuner?
Will you install on an existing barrel? How much? Lead time?

Thanks.

Busdriver,
The centerfire tuner is 1.665 od, threaded .900 x 32tpi id with a .75 exit. You need .950 behind the tuner.
Obviously, it's current configuration is geared to barrel contours of HV and up.

The rimfire version uses the same tuner body, but a clamp on inner assembly, similar to what the proven Harrell's design uses, and can accommodate most any barrel. Currently,I make the adapter for rimfires per order, to allow for PRX overall length, but have plans of making the inner clamping portion long enough to allow for gunsmith installation, other than myself. It'll be a simple length and counterbore adjustment to fit both, your barrel and the PRX if desired.

The centerfire tuners are $125 for the tuner, or $200 installed...The rimfire version is $175, cut and bored to your dimensions., to fit your supplied barrel od and PRX length.

You didn't mention whether yours is rimfire or centerfire, so please don't let my description be confusing. Either is very simple and straightforward, if it applies to you.
Turnaround depends on when I get your barrel...and sure...I'm happy to do installation on your existing barrel(s).
Right now, I'd guess a couple of weeks turnaround, but hope to be able to dedicate a machine to doing the installs in under a week in the near future.

I really think these are going to go over big. Testing, by myself and other shooters has yielded exactly what I had hoped and planned for. That being a wider tune window by better vibration management than tuning by mass alone. As I said, the science is already there. This is just applying it to barrel tuners.

Anyone can just google up "particle dampening of a cantilevered beam" and read till they're are blue in the face, to see for themselves, that the science is there to support this technology.

Where's the Brake?
This is a dedicated tuner, meant specifically for competition. Brakes aren't allowed in many different formats, or are undesirable in some.

I had that idea...or more specifically, an employee of mine did, for a tuner/ brake, about 5 years ago. Because of both design and rule limitations, this design will not incorporate a brake...but I do have plans for one that might, one day.

Would you be able to put a tuner on the 6ppc barrel I have sent you to do the 30 Major work?

Thank you,
Jim

Mike your tuners look great would you please explain what PDT (particle dampening technology) is and how it is different form other tuner designs.

Thank you,
Jim

I'll try to sum it it, but first, I said I'd let you know if your ppc barrel could get a tuner. I measured it and yes, I can put one on it. You had mentioned a 13.5lb weight limit. If that's the case, you can have the tuner and plenty of room tp spare, weight wise.

As far as what I feel makes a particle dampening tuner work better than what we already have is that most tuners only use it's mass to control vibration. These use mass AND particle dampening to do the same. Particle dampening is simply particles, in this case, of tungsten powder, colliding into each other, absorbing energy, when excited by the barrels vibration. To go into the details as to why and how...and what particle media is best suited, would be like writing a book on here.
That's why I recommended that anyone wanting to learn more about particle dampening, to simply google the term "particle dampening of a cantilevered beam"....lots of reading on scientific research that validates it's use.

The science is there, the testing is done, and the tuners are here. :) ..lol.

Mike, have you experimented any with hydraulic dampening? I know some compound bow stabilizers use some sort of liquid to dampen bow vibes...wonder if that can be applied to a tuner?

Chuck, to be honest, no. I did consider it, though.

Remember, IMHO, we also need weight to achieve a wider window.

I will say this..My first prototype using tungsten powder weighed considerably less than a tuner that only used a solid mass for dampening. The tungsten powder tuner had a wider tune window than it's heavier counterpart. So the tungsten powder was of significant benefit. In other words...it was working like I had hoped after researching the concept.

I would like you to also put a tuner on the ppc barrel.

Thank you,
Jim

Will do, Jim. I hope to get started on it tomorrow. I apologize for not getting to your other barrel yet. I meant to yesterday. I never dreamed these tuners would take off this fast!
