New to short BR - need a scope.

Hi.

Soon owner of a BAT 6mmPPC. I can borrow a T36 until I find a scope I prefer.

Right now I am a donkey between two heystacks - one scope is the NF comp featherweight 42x44 (how big is the dot in CTR-2?) the other a March comp fixed 40 or 50. I think I will go with a 3/32 dot as I have looked in one with it, and it seemed allright for me.

I can get any the two right where I live - the cost is about the same, unfortunately I can´t compare them side by side as I have to order them (a couple of weeks).

Which one would you prefer and why?

Mount the Weaver and go to a few matches and look at what is being used. Look through them and compare. Might want to look at the Golden Eagle and the Sightron III 10-50 too. Is weight a factor?

Good Luck!

Bill

Weight is definitely a factor in short range benchrest. Two of the three "bag gun" classes have a 10.5# weight limit.

I have all the scopes that you have mentioned, 2 NF straight 42 Comps, a March 40 & 50. The NF dot size is just like a March 3/32. Weight of all 3 scopes are just about identical. My 40 & 50 weigh in at 20.9oz, my 2 NF Comps at 21oz even. I would go with the March 40 or 50 because they are noted for holding their POI. Since the NF only became available last year the jury isn't out yet on that particular model. About 3 weeks ago I just received a new March High Master 48X. It's is brighter, clearer, and the resolution is better than the regular March scopes and that weighs 22.3 oz sans rings.

Yeah, I have asked my dealer about that new March 48X, if and when it will be available. I see it is sold in Australia for only 2 500 Aus Dollar, and I sent them an email asking if it is possible to ship to Europe. If so it´s a bargain. Thank you - leaning towards a March.

Can't see how the same glass can be a lot clearer from one power to the next. I personally don't find the sharpness of the glass my #1 concern on a gun built for 100-200 BR shooting at very clear paper targets. Solid non shifting internals, another 10 power and the advise of a HOF shooter that lives in my neck of the woods dealing with our local conditions is what brought me to my choice. I let go of a NF Comp to get the March 36-55 EPZ for the same rock solid internals for 1000yd BR and in my opinion the NF has a sharper image through the scope. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder when it comes to scopes it seems.....;)

Call Bart. He got some Valdada 36s in a few weeks ago. Interwebs chatter suggest that they are wonderful at holding point of aim. IMO, this is priority #1. I got one, so I hope that's the case. I will say that the adjustment clicks are the most positive that I've ever felt.

He was a pleasure to work with. Really went out of his way to help me. The kind of guy/ small business that I want to support.
