New to shooting past 100 yards.

My friend Erick and I went to our local range so I can shoot a couple of his rifles. We started with the 100 yard target then moved to the 300 yard target which for me was the first time past 100 yards. I have to say I was impressed with his equipment and was having a very good day at the range. He then mentioned a class (shooting school) being held in Williamsport, PA (The Original Pennsylvania 1000 Yard Benchrest Club, Inc.) and it was out to 1,000 yards. I looked at him and said your joking right, he was not of course and sent me the information to review and if I was intrested I could register. I have to say it was one of the BEST weekend shooting experience I have had in some time. The Instructors were AWESOME (Thank you Ryan) I was hooked with long range benchrest shooting. Since that experience I have been on line searching for available parts and supplies to have rifle built and shoot.

Soon my friend and I will head to the range to break in my new rifle and do some load developing, which is also new to me.

People like Erick, clubs like The Original Pennsylvania 1000 Yard Benchrest Club, Inc, made this possible for me.
The members of this site have provided a lot of valuable information at some point I will be able to do the same.

Thank You

Someone’s got the bug. Empty pockets now.

I gotta add the most important advice you’re gonna get- buy the stuff people actually win with and use a gunsmith that wins. I see way too many folks buying what they see at the range or what they read about on the net. Trust me on this- buy once. Its actually cheaper in the end. Welcome to the forum!

Welcome aboard!

From 100 yards to a range session out to 300 yards. Then going straight to 1,000 yards with a custom gun build to boot.

You don't do things in half measures, do you? Lol
LOL, One needs to obtain the right tool for the job, I had nothing for anything past 100 yards.

Very good point Dusty and than you!

A friend got me to go to a PA Groundhog Match with him and shoot my 22-250 in factory class. Never shot past 100 yards either. I practiced the day before the match at 100, 300 and 500 where it was being held. I finished nowhere near the top but I wasn't last either. That had me hooked. The following year (2011) I built my first custom rifle. Now +10 years later, 4 custom rifles and another ready to be built, and a few wins under my belt, I am defiantly hooked and broke. lol

I find that hard to believe.
Take the 22LR out to 300 or 600 yards.
Heck, i've been known to shoot my 1911 in 45ACP out to 200 meters.
The target is bigger.
But so are the holes. Lol
