so i am brand new to reloading, not to shooting or firearms just the reloading aspect of things. I have a good set up and as i am sure many people do i started with loading factory ammo (new brass, and loads that are same a hornady eld match round)
I am a little nervous and just want to make sure I am doing it right before i blow up my rifle or self.
id like to type out step by step what i do and see if anyone with experience can let me know if im good or what i am doing wrong.
so i first take the brass, measure it and make sure it is deburred
then i load a primer
measure my powder to the specs in my reloading book for that load
load powder and then load the round itself
measure and make sure OAL is good
now im sure i sound stupid but is there more to it when reloading with all new brass?

pick me apart tell me what im doing wrong thats what im hear for.

Very cool that you make the effort to check!

What are you measuring on the brass?

How are you choosing the load in the reloading book?

Also, post what cartridge you are loading, the bullet, the powder charge and the OAL you are using. People with a lot of experience will be able to let you know if anything sticks out.

Your looking good.. glad you havent over complicated things..
I always recommend panhandleprecision.com or his you tube videos. They are several years old now but Sam does step step reloading videos using very common tools and explains everything…. Dig around his videos as you move forward.

thanks for replying, i measure the brass to make sure it is uniform in length. as far as choosing the load im loading the powder that my hornady 11th edition reloading book recommends. I am loading 6.5 creedmoor 140 grain Hornady ELD match with H4350 (40.5gr) & CCI large rifle primers.

You didnt mention it so... where do you get your primer infoand What powder to use ?.

The rest all seems solid to me.

Posting your specific round that you're loading and all the individual components would be very helpful.

I also am basing my OAL to store bought rounds of the same brand as i am loading for my 6.5 creedmoor.

Step #1, read a reloading manual, read several reloading manuals.

Clean your brass
Resize your brass
Trim
Deburr
Primer
Powder
Bullet
Cartridge check.
do i need to resize new brass if my brass is same length as factory/store bought and at the end my OAL is within spec?

Factory new will be the shortest it will ever be.

I highly recommend the hornady modified case and overall case length gauge, so\nYou can measure your chamber length and distance to lands.

can you expand on that and the process?
With most new brass packaged in bulk the brass can get bumped and dinged, especially the case neck.
Therefore, it is a good idea the run the expanding mandrel into the case neck to make completely round and remove and deformities.

Just bumping the neck into the die is all that is necessary to do this.

If you're using boattail bullets this may not be necessary, with flat base bullets probably.

A quick visual inspection of each piece of brass before you prime it is fine. If there's a dent in the neck you can run it thru the sizing die to fix it.
Watch some youtube videos, you'll get the hang of it in no time.
The most important mistake to avoid is make sure you use the correct powder each time you reload!
