Many years of skeletal damage as well as hearing damage have left me in a dilemma of not liking recoil or muzzle brakes. I had sold off a few things and was looking to built another long range rifle. Thinking was towards a 7mm (3000fps w/ 180berger) heavy enough for light recoil and no brake.
Being a WBY fan I thought of staying that course, but others may make the grade. I have used and built many custom rifles on Mark V actions in all WBY calibers and all have performed well.

It has arrived on the Prairies of NE Wyoming, so as weather/time allows it will get a test drive and is expected to do well. First shakedown ammo is a go-to load of 180gr Berger/66grs H1000 in WW cases with cci-250. Has done well in many rifles chamber for this and will do the desired 3K in a 30" barrel. We shall see. I also have some 168's to try as well.

Looks real nice BigHorn. Real nice. Let us know how she shoots.

Made it to the "range" tonight. I shoot out east of town on 15 sections of public land. We have many places to shoot as needed to for weather, wind, etc..... There are 2 gongs, they are 36" pipe flange cover plates, 1" thick.
I can shoot from many different places at them to get whatever distance I want.

I fired the first few rounds to check perceived pressures and to zero at 100yds. Load is fine/mild and group at 100 is a ragged hole.

I set my 100 yard target stand (a old real estate sign) so I can swing over and engage the close gong at 500yds.
1 round ay 100, then a 3 shot group for my ego, then more to fine tune the zero. Set up for 500, come up 7 3/4min according to JBM at a estimated 3000fps. First shoot hits dead center on 3" dot, next shoot I rush and hits
1 1/2" low. Forgot a 17lbs rifle will need something more than a Harris bi-pod.

I packed up Kia and drove over to another ridge. Took a bit to range it all out as my PRF will do 1100 on a perfect day. I got 900 okay, than ranged another 700 behind me in as straight a line as possible. Found a suitable spot to launch. Zeroed at 100 with the 20moa base gave me 48min up, JBM says I need 48.3 for 1600...........I don't have the .3, but heck, let it rip. Set up as best I can, recheck everything and sent one. Seemed to hit low, sounded odd. This rifle is very easy to self-spot my shoots. Set up again, extra careful, and sent my last round. Gong sounded like it rang....hummmmmmm....so I pack up everything a drive on over. It is over a mile to get there on a 2 track.
First shot seemed to have hit the rim and the last hit on the gong about at the "nose" of the smiley face.

Pictures show the results. I am very happy with the FatGirl. Thou I will need to spend some more money on her. A way tougher bi-pod and about 20x magnification at a minimum, 30x would be better.
