New to barrel tuners

Just bought a 6 BR Norma gun.
Configuration is:
28" Criterion 1:8 twist
Palma stock
Savage 12 custom target receiver

I have been shooting 7 years with a 6.5 and 6mm creedmoor and have done dozens of ladder and load testing on 6 barrels I have shot out with these 2 (3 each).

My question is I am waiting for my re loading dies to show up so I can start the process's.

I may go with a barrel tuner on this gun but do not have one yet.

The other issue (I think) is the threads on the barrel are 5/8 x 24. Looking around on the internet I don't see a tuner with those threads.

Should I hold off on the testing until I install a tuner or can I wait until I perfect a load for this gun.

My thinking is the added weight of the tuner will change my nodes and thus change my load testing results.

Could I add say, a muzzle break that equals the weight of the tuner and proceed and then install the tuner and fine tune??

Anything you add or change on the muzzle will affect tune. Best to install the tuner and work up the load first. Then begin to work with the tuner. Erik Cortina has 5/8 X 24 threaded adapters for use with his tuners.

Cortina makes a great tuner brake. Works really well.

This will go against the norm. I have been working with a tuner for a year or 2. What I have found and tested many times. I start without the tuner. I "tune" the load with a chronograph. Get the extreme spreads low with seating depth and or powder charge - paying NO, I repeat NO attention to groups. Then put the tuner on and do a tuner test. Light tuners, heavy tuners, doesn't matter. I use an Ezell tuner, and also a light tuner my gunsmith let me use. With the heavies, one # at a time, 3 shot groups at 100 yds w/ flags (Mike Ezell). Best to go thru 15 #s. You will see spots and areas that are the best. Then test at range and tweak as necessary. Light tuners, I went 5 #s at a time - worked the same. There are theories that explain this, I tried them, and they are holding true so far.
Good luck, Dave

Harrells makes brakes and tuners......5/8 x 24. The tuners are beautiful and they really do work.
