New to 6.5mm loading

I have recently aquired 2 6.5mm rifles. One - a 6.5SLR Tikka with a Proof barrel, and a 6.5mm Creed RPR (which came as part of an estate sale - I may not keep it, but never having tried a Creed...) Due to the lack of powders in NZ, I grabbed what I could to do some development. So Reloder 17, 6.5 Staball and IMR4831.

I know that R17 has a reputation for high temperatures...but advice please. Planning on Sierra 142g MK and possibly 130g Hornady, cos I have some for the Grendel.

While not exactly the same, h4831 works well with 142's in my 260. I'd imagine the IMR flavor should work well in the SLR with 142's.

I switched to 6mm Creedmoor when I shot the barrel out of my 6.5...but just like with the 6CM, I had a lot of success with the 6.5 with H4350 and RL-16. If you can manage to come across either of those, they perform very well.

With the 6.5 Credmoor I would personally try H-4831sc with 140 gr and heavier bullets.

Don't expect the highest velocity with H-4831sc, but the accuracy will make up the difference.

I don't have any experience with the 6.5 SLR, but I assume it's fairly close to 6.5 CM.

I've had good results using StaBall 6.5 under the 153 gr Atips in my 6.5 RPR. Very good results using Hornady Superformance under 140 gr ELD-Ms. They're fun to shoot no doubt!

Interesting. I don't have any - but I do have some IMR4831, which looks a little bulkier on paper. I also have some Staball HD(?) - the slower one, which I will also try. The SLR has a little more capacity ( Its basically a 260 with the neck lengthened by 100 thou and a 30 deg shoulder. ) I have also just had a 6SLR built, which is the same case in 6mm, which will run well on the 4831 burn rates, I suspect.

A lot to do, when the rain stops...

In my 260 gas gun I run w760 it shoots good for what an AR but may not be as fast as some of the others

My local Cabela's got a large shipment of h4350 Saturday. Might be a good place to look if you have one near. $49.99/lb.
