No cartridge guide for 338 LM? Anyone have recommendations around match bullets?

Goal is paper punching and steel out as far as I can find safe places. (weekend trip to 2500y range).

You wont find a guide on that round around here because thia website is competiton centered. A 338 isnt a competition round. Email berger and ask for reliading data if you need it.

300gr berger hunting bullet.

Rl-33

Lapua brass

Federal mag primer

Thats my combo.

Cutting edge 277 grain over Retumbo best combo in my 338LM AI. Buddy shoots RL 33 over 300 gr Berger otm's. Takes about 5 grains more powder than the retumbo to get same velocity. Have a much harder time seeing bullet hits a mile with cutting edge due to solid copper verus berger bullets lead core.

Rl-33 is lower pressure powder, end up with better velocity. More bang, less pressure over retumbo, h1000 etc etc... but i cant speak for everyone, guns like what they like.

My brother in law is h1000 all day long in his.

300 Grain Berger, 285 Hornady ELD-M

US869, N570, Retumbo, H1000, RL33 in no special order. US869 is really good with long barrels. The new IMR7977 should be close to the same as H1000 and should be good.

I get the best accuracy from 93 grains of retumbo with a 285 A Max. It's a remington 700 police in an AICS Ax chasis. And it suppresses very well, actually quieter than my 6.5 creedmoor using a 30 cal can. The 338 YHM can is heavy, but it turns it into a pussy cat to shoot.

I don't get to shoot mine much as its a 4 1/2 hour drive to get to a range long enough to make it worth while. So I haven't used up all my bullets and powder from my old school load. I started years ago using 300 grain SMK (cause there were no 338 bergers then) and RL 25, When I use the last of my RL25 I will be buying RL 33. How ever I have the habit forming box of 300 GR SMKs and will be using those for a while. I also like (against all odds) WC872 and if money is an issue look for some, it shoots good out of my gun. Not so much out of my 300RUM.

how do you like the Cutting Edge Bullets? I'm going to post a request for people with experience useing some of their bullets, Rw

They are the most consistent bullets I've ever bought. Pricey, but worth it. I've only loaded the 338's so far. Their company is very customer based. Easy to get ahold of to talk. Shipping is quick. I'd like to try their 300 gr bullet but needs a 1x8 twist to stabilize. The 277 gr does great with my Krieger 1x9.35(?could be 9.25 cant remember). I have single digit Sd with Retumo, Fed 215M, and Lapua brass. Velocity is 3020 fps. I shoot a 32 in 1.450 straight tube with tbac suppressor. We have access now to two 2200 yard private farms.

You are a lucky man to have access to those ranges, Something most of us can only dream about.

It was a long struggle. Spend better part of two years begging and pleading with local farmers. Our current range is shut down due to folliage overgrowth and a unwilling farmer is has resisted cutting down the scrub trees in our line of sight. This range we have to shoot over three different farms to get the distance. Our new range will be a lot easier. Owned by one man who also loves to shoot. Yes we are indeed lucky. Good luck shooting. If your up in sw wisconsin give a ring. Scot

I hear that. I'm sorry for your range troubles. Come on down to the SW. No farmers cause no water. Just don't hit a skinny cow

This forum is one of the best out there. A place for good people to talk and share information. The world would be a far better place wih more individuals like our members to help. Scott

I'm using 91.25 N570 and lapua 300gr scenars getting 2860fps out of a 32" barrel that gives me .4 moa groups at 100. I can get out to 2550 yards with 140 moa elevation (ERA mount, 100 moa scope) I can get a lot more speed but the groups open up and trying to hit a 1 moa target at distance is hard enough.

watch that forum carefully. Upon trying to sign up it told me my Email address of more than 20 years had been assigned to a corporation, and that I needed to provide them with my personal information to proceed any further.
