New Thermal Scope

Those that night hunt on here what would u suggest for a new thermal? I have a d-28 3rd gen but i think it's time to move on up! It's very hard to zero. I have a hand held thermal and love it. I have seen some great pictures from I R hunter and others but that item is about 9 grand.I hope a dealer might just make a trade with cash of course. There are so many on the market and i figured people on here would be great at suggestions! Thanks!

Pulsar XP38, will do it all. Can be had for a tad over $4k (reg is $4999) from optics planet when they have their 11% off sale.
Can get thermals for lots less depending on what core you want and size. Look at the new Thermions from Pulsar, still 3k and up. Units go from $2k to $70k depending on your pocket book.
I like the xp38 unit vs any 50mm or larger just due to field of view. Im usually shooting from 50 yards to 300, but most average around 100-200 yds.

Thanks for the information i will look into the xp38

One nice feature about the Pulsar XP38 Trail is the one shot zero function.
I sighted in two different rifles today at 95 yds. Four total shots and “zeroed” at 95 yds.
Oh and no I didn’t shoot my truck.

I would save up and get Trijicon Reap Ir for out to 250 yds or so and Mk 3 hunter for the rest . I won't say anything bad about the others but some have had problems keeping zero from warm to cold temps .

Greg Tanell used to be the guy for night vision and IR. He does a lot of coyote hunting and has tried them all.
Yes i read up and saw videos on the IR Hunter and it was something else! It is about 8 grand but i guess u get what u pay for?

I have researched and talked with several experienced thermal savvy coyote hunters, if my budget allowed I would buy a Flir 536. I hunt mostly open country, if you would be in tighter cover and limited to shots 100 -150 yards max I would drop down to 2-3x model.

Pulsar XP38 or XP50, Flir 536, Trijicon reap IR60, or hunter MK3, depending on where and what you are using it for would dictate which i bought. I hunt alot in the sage and scrub oak, not alot of wide open, so I went with field of view.

Depends on what you are using it for. We pig hunt a bunch at nite...Field of View is VERY important. I have a Pulsar Core (cheap entry level, does a decent job) and recently upgraded to the Pulsar XD50 LRF. There is 1x difference on the bottom end...the Core is 1.6 and the XD50 is 2.7...no big deal, right? WRONG...the field of view is significantly different. To the point I like spotting with the XD50 but actually prefer using the Core when we run into a sounder...only reason FOV.

Good luck...there are all kinds, I like the Pulsar offerings because my buddies had them and I could shorten the learning curve and they seem to work pretty well. I don’t regret the Core but I sure wish I would’ve just stepped up to the XP38 or XP50 as mentioned above.

I have a Reap IR 60 and a N vision Halo LR, I have been using them alot, I switched from pulsar because of POI changes that they say have been fixed

Used in Thermal Armasight (now owned by Flir) , Pulsar and had issues with both suppliers and there products with defects from POI shift, displays failing, shutter failing etc, warranty claims got expensive with Armasight having to send back to US every time and waiting Mo this for a repair or replacement. Pulsar has a local distributor warranty claims qui k turn around but hafter 3 units in 2 years I had enough of workinh around the unit.

Been using Gsci for awhile and been very happy with performance. Cost is a little more, but haven't had the issues i had with the other suppliers, 7 years warranty. Doesn't have all the bells n whistles, but the image is better, the FPA is more sensitive and best of all no POI shift so far in different temps ranges. This is a must when shooting small critters, I use my optics for paid work so I have to be able to rely on my equipment.

IF your residing in the US t,here's more on OFFER at your disposal and at prices cheaper then those outside the US. Unfortunately in Australia we're limited to what we can have.
