New Sierra 7mm bullet BC .707

Grimstod

Machinist, Designer, and Shooter.
This is just in from Sierras FB page. Pretty good looking bullet. I bet they are competing with Bergers new 195gr 7mm
What do you guys think?

If the BC numbers in the picture stand up, then it would probably be the top-dog in the BC race.

With that in mind, there is a lot more to long range bullets than pure BC.

Hmmm.... Time to build a new rifle? Perhaps... Wonder how this would do in a SAUM
Maybe I'll get Sierra to make some brass.

Sierra greatly overstated the BCs on their "tipped Match Kings". I'm in the camp waiting to see some test results.

.707 is probably not far off. I've shot them at 600 yards quite a bit and my bring up is very similar to the Berger 180 hybrids.

looks like Grafs already has them listed on their website. Scroll to the bottom.

"Sierra Bullets is proud to introduce a new addition to the legendary MatchKing® line. Shooters around the world will appreciate the accuracy and extreme long range performance of Sierra's 7mm 183 grain HPBT (#1983). A sleek 27 caliber elongated ogive and a final meplat reducing operation (pointing) provide an increased ballistic coefficient for optimal wind resistance and velocity retention. To ensure precise bullet to bore alignment, a unique bearing surface to ogive junction uses the same 1.5 degree angle commonly found in match rifle chamber throats. This bullet requires a twist rate of 1:8” or faster to stabilize."

The .707 number is still lower than the .754 G1 of the 195 though...

That is interesting that they state a 1:8 twist is needed.

it is nice that you don't have to point them though.

What twist rate are you using?

Yeah like when Hornady come out with the 105gr HPBT Match bullets. "Oh they're tipped!" they said, "Oh they have a high BC!" they said...But they forgot to mention those bullets have the worst tolerances I have ever had the displeasure of measuring/weighing >:(

Tho Sierra is no novice to making very accurate long range bullets, so I wouldnt be surprised if these are the "real deal".

Sierra recommends fast twist rates. They call for an 8 twist with their 180's also. I've never had problems using 8.5 and 9 twist 32" barrels. I'm not positive, but believe that they recommend faster twists in case someone is using a shorter barrel. I have an 8.5 set up right now, and will definitely try them when available.

8 twist my a$$. I'll get my hard data from other shooters that I know and velocity of my 9 twist. Not trying to bang the gong here, but can you imagine the pressure from a 1-8 twist of that length? Just sayin' is all,
Lloyd
