New Shooting Range Opening

Hello fellow shooters,

A new shooting range will be opening in Saltville,Va very soon. There is more than enough property to have 1000yd comps. A meeting will be held on the first Tuesday in March @ 6:00 at the Kiwanis building to discuss this matter. The plan is if enough shooters are interested in using this range for NBRSA, IBS, F-Class, then we will set it up accordingly. Right now the 100, 200, & 300yd section is ready to shoot but will still need final finishing for comps. I am head of the committee for the long range (600yd-1000yd) side of this.I have shot IBS 600yd with a close friend Rodney Wagner, you may know him as "eggman",and currently shoot F-TR 1000yd. The plan also is to use this range for IDPA, 3 Gun, Skeet & Trap, and indoor 22LR matches. It took over 3 yrs to be able to purchase this land and get approved for a shooting range so we are anxious to get started. It will take some dedication and hard work to make this happen but we have some very knowledgeable people behind this operation. If you are willing to travel to Saltville,Va and see this get started, please get in touch with me as we need all the help and support we can get. I would like to get serious shooters that would come and shoot a match to send me an email saying you support this and if the range was setup properly you would attend so I can give to the President of this range. The name of the range is Northfork Sportsman Club. Thanks. Here is my contact info:

You have my attention ! Do you know of any campgrounds near the new range ? My wife and I both love to shoot. A nearby campground would be great as we also love to camp. IBS is what we would like to try and the only range close to us Is Bridgevill Del. and that is a winter league and me and winter shooting doesn't work. Thanks John

Have you had anyone from the NRA look at your plan? Or have you looked at the big book of NRA ranges for some great design and thoughts on Saftey so you dont get sut down a week ofter its all done.
There is very nice ( shooter) gentleman in WV who advises on Ranges for the NRA. His name is Dick Whiting. If you Email me I can give you his info.

Hate to see alot of work put into something for nothing in the end. We need more Long Range rifle ranges!!!!

I hear that the long range part of this thing is not going to happen. I am told that they've finally got their 200 yards but 300 is going to be iffy and totally forget anything over that. Just another short range gun range. That's too bad because it would have been so nice to bring medium to long range registered and unregistered events to Southwest Virginia. Just off the top of my head I know of enough sanctions that they could have had at least two 600 to 1000 yard events per month over an 8 month span per year. 16 big pay events per year minimum not to mention non registered events like long range groundhog shoots and egg shoots. could have been a mega money making machine not to mention the benefit the all of the long-range shooters in this area that have to travel distance to be able to practice and compete in our craft.

Look at hungry mother's state park. Shouldnt be to much of a drive.
It's a State Park... No Guns Allowed. Why take the chance on sneaking them in? There is a private campground at the 7 Mile Ford exit right off of Interstate though. Not as nice as Hungry Mother State Park but at least you would be legal and not taking the chance of having your expensive toys confiscated.

Please direct me to your source for that information. Thanks
It seems that I have made a mis-statement. I based what I said on old information. The last time I was in that park was around 15 years ago even though I only live 20 miles from there. I can remember that at that time there was a big sign at the check-in shack that said that firearms were prohibited. When you questioned what I had said I went to the internet and found out that in fact those laws have been changed in favor of the gun owner.

So I apologize for making an incorrect statement and I am very happy that I was wrong. Finally something has gone right for the gun owners of Virginia. However I did find on the internet that the Virginia Socialist Liberal Antis are just waiting in the dark corners for some idiot to do something wrong with a firearm in a state park so they can go after this new law.
