New shooter needs advice

Hi new to the forum. Ive got a model 12 Savage S-Shot 22-250,and wanting to try my hand at some competetion shoots but I dont know which way to go. I have never done it before. Im still picking my days somewhat when I shoot and Im getting better. Rignt now at 100yds. 5 shot groups ave. in the mid .2s sometimes better and at 300yds. 1 1/4 inces but getting better. 300yds is my limit where Im shooting, safety). Would this be good enough to at least get started in some kinda meet. THANKS.

You would be competitive in factory class benchrest. That's how many people get their start. Factory class is really a lot of fun because you get to compete at minimal investment and are only shooting against others with similar equipment. You should let people know where you are located and maybe someone in your area can point you toward matches close to you. You also can shoot factory class postal matches if nothing else close to you is available. Here is a link to the postal shoots... http://www.bench-talk.com/postal/

Turtleman, you are so screwed!!! Welcome to the Forum and get your wallet ready.

I too shoot a Savage competitively, I shoot 1000 yards with mine. Much modified now, but great fun along the way.

What type of shooting are you interested in and how long have you been shooting.

Let us know where you want to go and the Forum will help.

Yes, I only live about 45 minutes south of bridgeville. Iknow they shoot for score at 600 and 1000yds. But what is a groundhog shoot. My problem is that Im limited to 300yds. at home so shooting at 600yds. I would be lost with no way to practice for that distance or load development for that. Iwas considering custom bullets for my rifle,1in12 twist probably limited to 60gr.
Right now shooting Nosler b-tips 55gr.Any help would be appreciated. THANKS.
